Reporting Period

deletedover 8 years

Why is it that users can file a report up to seven days after the offense has taken place?

It doesn't make sense to me that the time period is that long. It should be reduced to 48 hours at the most.

The only thing that seven days allows someone is the chance to dig into the game records and see if they can get them banned.

Shorter reporting periods will allow users enough time to report offenses but also help to reduce report spam when people find each and every violation a person has committed in the last week.

The reason, though, that we can't just say "Only people in this game can report for violations" is because if there was a game full of friends, they can't break rules and get away with it.

By reducing the time to 48 hours or less, it leaves just enough time to report the violations and also keep out the report trolls who just want to try to get people banned and overuse the system.

Should it change to what OP is saying?

Sometimes I get salty. I'm in favor of going through people's games of gallis hunter and getting them banned.

There are better ways to prevent petty people from abusing the reporting system and mod team than this. Furthermore, people who want to be petty and find games to grudge-report will just redouble their efforts if this is implemented.

The solution to the problem that you're addressing here has to address changing the community mentality on the site, which is a problem on a whole different order of magnitude than what's been discussed up to here in this thread.

To be honest slight rulebreakers still get a slap on the wrist. Just make the punishment less severe if you want to maintain the 'fun'.

Really though. Or just change the report period for things like HC which are generally just used to exact grudges anyway.

Well, I'm not encouraging rule breaking, and the punishments are in place for a reason. I'm just discouraging people from going out of their way to look through other people's games to be douchebags.

Aka what your buddies did to me way back ;)

rutab, also if you think its abuse for somebody to look through somebodys games and find things to report them on in order to get them banned, why don't you think its abuse for the user themself to continually break the rules after being vioed for them?

It is also abuse, but it should be reported WHEN IT HAPPENS by someone who was affected by it at the time.

If not that, then who the heck even cares?

Teach people to report things then, not to be a loser and spite someone at your convenience.

yeah, but breaking the rules is always breaking the rules. some people don't care for reporting that sort of thing, which doesn't make the rule breaking any less severe

stop trying to protect rule breaking. if i told a dirty joke to a bunch of my friends at work, and one of my friends told another coworker about it who didnt like me and i got reported, i would be pissed but i'd know im in the wrong (trying to incorporate "fun" into a real life analogy)

Gotcha, I don't really know what to recommend then other than a sorta parole system. Warn them of actions in their previous games and elevate it if it happens in future ones. I can see where you're coming from at least.

according to roadman, even a warning violation is 'too punishing'

Do you complain this much when you're having sex?

Honestly. You are such a miserable person.

Back to Vancy's car analogy.

Kerry in the passenger seat of Connor's risque 68mph Honda Civic:

"Hey! Did you see him? He was definitely doing 73mph.

Connor:

"That's it. Take his registration number! I'm pulling over to call the police."

Hey! That guy is driving drunk, but a cop isn't catching him.. we definitely should not allow anyone else to call a cop and get this mad man off the roads!

Now you're talking about a cheating violation or OPI.

My example is subject to slight rule breakers.

what is GRS then? driving in the carpool lane?

Do people also realize this is not encouraging rule-breaking behavior and is also for minor offenses?

Idk how you think this ruins anything
