.... Obviously Devante didn't think that the point of asking for prayers is so some god will magically fix these atrocities. That's exactly it, prayers don't fix problems. Rather than appealing to religion, politicians should take action to stop these entirely avoidable mass shootings. But the contention here is not that sympathy is bad because it's not equivalent to action, Crooks, the argument is that it's ingenuine and hypocritical for politicians to send *sympathy* to family members of those who died but refuse to use their legislative power to prevent more deaths by guns. The families of countless victims wouldn't have to be comforted if these politicians would stop blocking laws to prevent these deaths in the first place.
Unless/until you want to argue regarding the substance of gun control policy, these politicians' hypocrisy is irrefutably pronounced.

the prayers would still be there, but THEN, discussions of whatever else would happen afterwards. and i'm not even sure why you even care why random people aren't saying more than giving their sympathy for the fallen anyway.
if white cops kept shooting killing black people who were unarmed and the white mayor/police commissioner/people in power kept saying let's pray for black person and their family i'm sure you would have more to say than just prayers
