i dont think anyone would be arguing that it's a perfect solution and that the database would be 100% accurate to pinpoint people who would want to engage in gun violence due to mental illness, but it'd help with a statistical model im pretty sure.
only downside (aside from privacy concerns) in this hypothetical we don't even know is a real thing being pushed for, is that people (especially paranoid schizos lol) would stop seeking treatment bc a lot of them already think the government is after them lol
Some mental illnesses are very hard to diagnose, along with the fact that some have symptoms that don't manifest themselves for years (eg. after they purchase a gun).
i too think a database created by the government to document and track mental illness is the way to go when it comes to gun violence. as opposed to making guns harder to get (such as increasing wait times, increasing background checks, and/or limiting the guns being purchased to small handheld guns that are legitimately for self-defense). But sure let's create a nation-wide database for the mentally ill instead.

lets not argue with extreme hypothetical analogies. that is ridiculous. you're arguing for something that wont work at all when all of this attention should be focused toward a solution that will actually work. that is what im arguing.
Just for arguments sake justrec. Let's pretend instead of assault weapons everyone had access to another military weapon: bombs - if there was a mass casualty more times in the US than there were days, but with bombs would you be opposed to getting rid of bombs because it would be difficult to stop criminals from turning them in?

well the problem is you wouldn't be able to take away everyone's guns. it's impossible. too many guns in the U.S. criminals will break the law and still kill people with them, even if guns are banned, just like they are in chicago. :))))))))))))))))))
If I was president id take everyone's guns away, idc if there's chaos for a year or two or how many rebels die, because the number of republicsns that die In those 2 years will be nowhere near the number of deaths from guns in the following years
