Here would be the best compromise.

Strict background checks. Owning a gun should be like owning a car.

A person should be allowed one handgun, one hunting rifle, one simple shotgun.

You should only be allowed to buy simple ammo. No hollow point bullets.

Keep a strict, up to date list of who can't buy guns. Gun shops should be able to access this list with ease.

Collectors are allowed to keep more than one gun, but they must be disabled or disarmed in a way that won't allow them to fire.

No gun show loop holes.

Of course this isn't possible. Enforcing the gun limit at this point would be as plausible as deporting all 11 million plus illegal immigrants.

Yeah there's definitely no legitimate reason for goddamn assault rifles to be legal lmao

Instead of putting all that money towards a pseudo fix, get rid of assault rifles and you won't have deaths by assault rifle (as per my argument 6 months ago)

Per capita us has just as many documented mentally ill people as any other first work country but for some strange, foreign reason has an exponentially higher mass shooting rate

The Administration is proposing a new $500 million investment to increase access to mental health care.

The Social Security Administration has indicated that it will begin the rulemaking process to include information in the background check system about beneficiaries who are prohibited from possessing a firearm for mental health reasons.

The Department of Health and Human Services is finalizing a rule to remove unnecessary legal barriers preventing States from reporting relevant information about people prohibited from possessing a gun for specific mental health reasons.

So the stated purpose of this proposed database is, rather than aiding intervention.. is just research to identify whether the correlation between gun violence and mental illness is stronger than the correlation between gun violence and gun ownership?

That seems wrong.

Whenever someone conducts a mass shooting, liberals say: gun control, and conservatives say: mental illness.

Terrorism isn't part of this at all.

Oh and btw the NRA also paid off congress to stop the people who do research on substance abuse to do research on gun violence there's a video of Obama talking about it just 2 or 3 days before Orlando lol

lets not argue with extreme hypothetical analogies. that is ridiculous. you're arguing for something that wont work at all when all of this attention should be focused toward a solution that will actually work. that is what im arguing.

What's extreme about it? A bomb and an AR-15 were both manufactured in the same environment for the same purpose - battlefield weapons.

One is illegal to manufacture today, for the public, while the NRA paid off enough idiots in your senate to allow the other.

If they were no longer producing AR-15s and people just had a stockpile in their homes I could understand your argument, but the fact that in 2016 they're still being manufactured in factories and sold in gun stores, gun shows ect is asinine especially if you look up the results of on-field tests when the AR-15 first came out in the 60s ( the word exploded body parts came up a lot)

Who said anything about the view of gun violence? Obviously all this would be counter-terrorism work happening behind closed doors. It's not like the purpose of the model would be to show anything to the public about gun violence it's just be to better identify threats for surveillance.

The whole argument is about whether the problem is guns or mental health.
over 8 years
The NRA would like it because it'd, maybe, lower gun violence because counter-terrorism intervention becomes marginally more effective.

Lower gun violence means less fuel for gun control arguments, NRA approves!

it's be research on terrorism

Anything that would have any sort of negative impact on the view of gun violence would not be allowed.

I mean, you're not wrong.

But the NRA have specifically stated they do not want the government funding research on gun violence. Therefore, the statistical model you're talking about would be non-existent.

edit: The NRA has the GOP (republicans) by the balls in an iron grip for those uninformed.
