The Administration is proposing a new $500 million investment to increase access to mental health care.
The Social Security Administration has indicated that it will begin the rulemaking process to include information in the background check system about beneficiaries who are prohibited from possessing a firearm for mental health reasons.
The Department of Health and Human Services is finalizing a rule to remove unnecessary legal barriers preventing States from reporting relevant information about people prohibited from possessing a gun for specific mental health reasons.
So the stated purpose of this proposed database is, rather than aiding intervention.. is just research to identify whether the correlation between gun violence and mental illness is stronger than the correlation between gun violence and gun ownership?
Oh and btw the NRA also paid off congress to stop the people who do research on substance abuse to do research on gun violence there's a video of Obama talking about it just 2 or 3 days before Orlando lol
What's extreme about it? A bomb and an AR-15 were both manufactured in the same environment for the same purpose - battlefield weapons.
One is illegal to manufacture today, for the public, while the NRA paid off enough idiots in your senate to allow the other.
If they were no longer producing AR-15s and people just had a stockpile in their homes I could understand your argument, but the fact that in 2016 they're still being manufactured in factories and sold in gun stores, gun shows ect is asinine especially if you look up the results of on-field tests when the AR-15 first came out in the 60s ( the word exploded body parts came up a lot)
Who said anything about the view of gun violence? Obviously all this would be counter-terrorism work happening behind closed doors. It's not like the purpose of the model would be to show anything to the public about gun violence it's just be to better identify threats for surveillance.
But the NRA have specifically stated they do not want the government funding research on gun violence. Therefore, the statistical model you're talking about would be non-existent.
