I see many people complaining about the issue that 99% of games on here are either classic, FP or Coco. Why not restrict these games to a lobby called beginner lobby or something and have another lobby for everything else?

The solution is no solution that can be implemented, you'd have to create a full-scale change for people to stop being so bigoted towards each other
The problem you are looking at is not the system, rather the people who use it
It's a lot easier (for lucid) to change the system than to change the people who use it, tho
We tried this system, many times.
We tried Training Lobby. We tried Bronze, Silver, Gold lobby. We tried Intermediate and Silver. We tried Bronze and Competitive. We tried Training and Competitive.
None of it worked. The problem is the playerbase. That isn't something that's going to change.
Training/Competitive combo was pretty fun IMO when I started comp (2011 summer), it took quiet some time for comp to die. But I don't think the best solution is bringing it back either, although the playerbase seems to have grown since those days.

yeah, don't. the solution to this problem is giving people more options for how to filter games they see in the lobby. let people only view comp/redheart/unranked or whatever.

Anyone supporting the idea of competitive lobby will just find people to complain about ruining their precious mafia games either way, as that was the sole reason for the remerge because people wanted to have newcomers play with more seasoned players in picking up their habits
but the site meta has become so distraught in people asking for self-votes when they're clear or just reporting someone if things don't go your way that the future looks very bleak
Don't bring back competitive lobby or nothing will fill since players won't bother going there. We're fine as we are right now... no need for drastic change
What about giving a try to showing games in a reverse order first? So by default, the list would only show games that haven't yet started, putting ones in front that were made earlier, rather than later. This way FP and classic wouldn't flood away comp games, forcing people to constantly remake.
There could be an option to order games normally, plus after a few minutes games that don't have at least 2 players joined should go back ranking lower, to prevent afk hosts from polluting the top of the list.
Good thread, but don't restrict the amount of times a person can play one set up a day, you'll upset a lot more people than you'll please by doing this
but people from main lobby will gain access to beginner lobby anyway, if they still want to play those certain setups or to help out the newbies. It'll be filled with guides. And I think the site is not dead anyway, I'm pretty sure a decent amount of people register every month, but I'm sure not as many get into it because starting with no lead on what to do can really confuse you.
Make Beginner Lobby an independent lobby that hosts setups for beginners that are not competitive or point farms, like every other thing is blacklisted. And to start playing more setups, you need to reach a milestone and then you join main lobby.
There you can play any setup you want, I recommend featuring more setups and better setups. There are many bad setups but there are also setups that should get played much more and it's really sad to see them die out like this.
But this may just not be enough to solve the problem that most of the games are fancy pants and people who don't play fancy pants just play competitive instead. We can make it so you can't play a single setup more than 5 times per day, so you're forced to use your other 5 on other setups, this'll encourage people to play the featured setups.
Also, unblacklist any setup that isn't a complete pointfarm setup. I mean, is FT3 really blacklisted? It's actually a decent setup, why are people not playing it? Sure it won't be comped but it's for red hearts play.
You can try to blacklist fancy pants for a short period of time and see where that leads, not because it's unbalanced, but to get the players to play more setups.
