is the R word a "slur" against? I'm failing to comprehend how a word can universally be a slur without the definition or origin of the word being derogatory.

I'm failing to see why I have 2 violations for a word I was using in context of it's definition:

i've never called myself a SJW. that is a term you bestowed upon me yourself

I don't, n is a term specially used against black people during slavery and during the time of the jim crow law, and in part still today in america mostly.

R and crazy have no correlation because R was a term used for people who have learning disabilities while crazy is for people who have MENTAL disabilities
you're literally arguing semantics over a word you brought into this discussion in the first place which only serves to invalidate your initial point. you equated the two words to begin with so i entertained that line of thought. christ almighty.

did you know that you can have more than one perspective in a situation instead of feeling the need to create an identity out of your political beliefs?

Saying you want to use a word because it carries a certain vitriol is a terrible justification. stop insisting on being so edgy dude.
I'm sorry do you know any other words that make stupid people think? I'd love to use those and avoid having stupid conversations like this with you.

And honestly if this userbase wasn't the R word I'd be elaborately offensive but that flies over people's head.

look at sonrio, a politically charged millenial, become angry at the situation

different things offend different people. parading around and telling others what words they can and cant use just makes you come across as a giant tool.

i was equating one slur's synonyms to another. R is to crazy as N is to black. get it?

To further drive this point home

People who were/are called R's - People with down syndrome,
People who are called crazy - People with Bi Polar Disease.

so mist, you're wrong

THATS THE REASON WHY WE DONT YOU TO USE IT. WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU ANOTHER WORD THAT HAD THE SAME POWER AND WEIGHT
Because the word has more than one definition and you guys are crying about the word out of context.

i'm not sure how i wasn't clear? i was equating one slur's synonyms to another. R is to crazy as N is to black. get it?
Nope. R is used for idiots, Crazy is used for people who don't aren't stupid but don't see reality accurately.

"Didn't you say you'd give me $100 yesterday?"
"Nah, you're ( R | Crazy )"

which one makes sense?

u are both dumb in some ways but also right in some ways

basically human beings are naturally flawed and let's not fight and talk about someone we can all agree like hitler being a bad person am i right fellas?

fwiw, i think the people who want to use it have a point because the world is not black and white.
people can be informed, but the end-all-be-all is "it's certainly offensive to some and certainly used offensively BY some, which is reason enough to remove from your vocabulary if you're not a douche"
Patrick
harrold's post isn't directed at anyone and im sure a lot of people (connor) will disagree with me
what am i disagreeing with? you stated a fact
Patrick
but the usage of the R word has been around for ages and only recently has it become more offensive to use in light of millenials
accurate
Patrick
and tumblr and anyone denying such never lived in the 90s where cartoons used to use the R word on a daily basis
i don't believe you, but i can't deny it. family guy doesn't count though

why do you guys insist on using r anyway. is it so deeply ingrained into your vocabulary that youre too lazy to use others
Name one single word that carries the power and weight in the same context.

this thread is basically young tumblr users/millenials versus people who did not grow up when the usage of the R word was considered to be taboo

Do you not remember the time where practically everyone used the word 'autistic' as the go-to insult in Comp Lobby? How has EM evolved so drastically in the last 6 months that we eradicated that from peoples' diction without any major discussion on the forums?

if you cant let go of one single word because it offends and riles some people up idk what to tell you, you can say it all you want around the people who dont care but you're kinda setting yourself up for failure trying to oppose the majority who do
So you're all mentally disabled and I'm offending everyone with my liberal use of the R word?
deleteddeletedabout 11 years agoedited
i think from an outsider's perspective most people dont care about it as they lead on but they want to look good in front of society, or on the internet
