It is with sorrow to inform you guys that Josh took his own life this past Saturday morning. He was very loved and will be missed.

It seems that he wanted his final goodbye to be read by the website, so if you want to read it you can here: http://tsunderesoviet.tumblr.com/

Share your good memories of him if you feel inclined to do so, and please keep this thread civil and polite. Any negative comments will be deleted and the user suspended.

He was a guy that made a lot of stories together with me. I'm no longer a part of this community but this came to my attention recently. I remember him coming to me after the whole Vinyl/Mod debacle after stepping down, not yelling at me, but laughing his butt off. Even years after not seeing him I still chat about him with old friends and have a good laugh at the shenanigans him and me did together. To think i'll never be graced with his goofiness again is depressing. But it's EMs job to keep him living on in memory.

I don't even know what to say. You were freaking great. You treated me like an adult and I very much enjoyed our random, hour-long conversations about well... stuff. Games and anime, but also politics, economics and morality. You gave me perspective and treated me like an adult during a time where I really did need that - some self confidence. The one time you said something hurtful you spent a long time trying to make me feel better and I really did appreciate that. Mysterious, always, but charmingly straight-forward and with me, well I usually felt pretty great about myself when we spoke. I always hoped you enjoyed the conversations too. You were often gross and out-of-line, but always hilarious. The kind of twisted funny where I'd have to hide the fact I was laughing. Our last conversation was way too short - a shame it started off being about just modding, but anyway, as conversations with you do, and as your message undoubtedly will, it resonated with me and just made me think about the world in a somewhat different light. It's weird. I was just checking out books you recommended in Berlin.

There's a lot more I could say, but I'll keep it to myself. You meant a lot to many people on this site, and greatly helped many people I hold quite dear. Thank you for that. Reading your note, it really did seem like you had found your peace, which is really the only comfort here. RIP buddy.

Wait. Someone on EM committed suicide...? Sorry, I have no idea. Who's this Josh guy? I'd like to pay some respects to him. :)

i am extremely saddened to hear of your passing, and we all do bad things, but it seems like you repented and were kind, and that's more than many people are. rest in peace.

What did he do with the forum history?
over 9 years
He said in the very beginning of his note that he left another one for the people he knew IRL. This is pretty straightforward.

Anywhere else guys. Anywhere else

That's because it's a farewell to EM.

it's a really weird concept to me that there are people who never spoke to him and probably wouldn't had they gotten the chance that are now quoting his suicide note.

Again, this should be a wake up call. The em community, especially its older userbase is vile and toxic. Many keyboard warriors forget they're dealing with people and take things way past a certain line. Honour garyoak by being less of a toxic [redacted].

I'm not going to get in a prolonged cage match in this thread but I have to say that, as offensive as this is to the community, it is infinitely more insulting to Josh. What a repulsive trivialization of the real sources of suffering in his life.

Like, I typed up a bunch of stuff but backspaced out of it. I dunno what to say, you were a really great, intelligent, convivial guy to chat with - always indefatigable and fun. Man, ...

I wrote a poem a few years ago which has resonated in me somewhat over the past 24 hours or so. It's not really the best poem in the world, nor do I know if it's disrespectful to post it here. I can't help but feel it was applicable to someone of Eris' mindset, especially in his last remaining months, or even years. I just wanted to share it on the off chance that it may appeal to someone in a similar position. If you are unhappy in life, please find a way to make a change in your lifestyle so that you can appreciate what is around you.

Whilst she asks The Sandman to bring her a dream,
I urge this sand man to end a regime.
For the dream is there to be chased and not summoned.
Why allow oneself to wait and be bludgeoned;
In conscience and in morality?
You are your own worst enemy, a self-inflicted casualty.
They say, "good things come to those who wait"
I say, "who is this Mr. Good Things and why is he late?"
But if 'they' are correct,
And if 'they' too believe that "time waits for no man";
Then why must 'they' doubt us?
Is it because we took something beautiful and quantified it?
As we created the sundial, the watch, the glass and the clock.
Something that has ran free for an eternity 'til man;
To be contained, forever to merge with the laws of our land.
From this notion I'd now like to gain over myself the upper hand,
Before it's too late and a walking cane becomes my sole demand.
Life is not something we should sit and watch pass;
For there are only so many grains of sand in the hourglass.

I feel very reserved with stuff that is personal to me, especially when it comes to a website such as this. Eris' story is a complete tragedy, not only to himself, but to those around him. Please do not allow yourself to follow in his path.

Harrold, this is absolutely beautiful.

Goodbye, Josh. I was banned most of the time while you did your thing and I'm not sure I've ever played with you but I feel bad, man. Maybe, in another universe you're happy and living it up and I really hope it's true. RIP

Can we start some sort of fundraiser in his honor?

He was brilliant at doxxing. Maybe start a small scholarship for computer science majors or something. Or donate money to his family on behalf of us. Idk. I just want to do something.

there are a bunch of charities related to mental illness and suicide prevention, i'm usually skeptic about them about but clasp is one of the good ones, i think. if anyones in london they're holding a charity walk on may 16th

I haven't been able to finish writing something about Josh yet. It's a bit too much right now, but it definitely included something about his weird love for communists. I was just looking through logs and I think those that knew him might enjoy this quintessential josh quote. One of the few appropriate enough to post. Also I have to change his name because idk if it's an issue

[4/20/15, 10:51:30 PM] Shua: tbh trotskyists make me suspicious
[4/20/15, 10:51:41 PM] Shua: he's really popular with liberals and social democrats and the like
[4/20/15, 10:51:52 PM] Shua: and anyone whose popular with that group is... not the guy for me
[4/20/15, 10:52:11 PM] Shua: Also Stalin was hot in his youth =)

I'm sorry because I did not know you. From what I've seen here you were indeed a goodhearted & fantastic person and it's sad that I won't have a chance to meet you.

I hope that you're in peace now after all you have been through.

Rest in Peace.
