im a strong believer that you live with what you are born with, unless it physically / mentally debilitates you and prevents you from living a healthy life.

so while some treatments for extreme derangement due to these disorders is likely appropriate, i suspect there are many people who choose to go forward with surgery/medication that they don't need to subsist.

take, for example, an african boy who is starving on a regular basis. he feels like he is a girl, but does he need to cut off his genitals to keep himself alive and well? probably not, but if he's so inclined, he could become an eunuch. i doubt it is his primary concern, though. food would probably be the top priority.

in short, transgenderism is a #firstworldproblem

Actually, while this is also a false analogy, it is not a false condition. This specifically is known as body integrity identity disorder (BIID).

It is no more comparable to GID, however, as schizophrenia is to autism. They are similar insofar as they are disorders, that's the extent of it.

i was having issues finding resources against conversion therapy that solely focussed on transgender individuals (because the term conversion therapy applies to all lgbt individuals)

not only is the american psychiatric association against transgender conversion therapy

so is pretty much every american health organization, such as american psychiatric association, national association of social workers, and even big international health organizations such as the world health organization and pan american health organization

Question: Theoretically, if you got a kid at an early stage — 2 or 3 — even if the child were on the far side of the spectrum and really had a lot of behaviors that seemed to point in the direction of a transgender identity, do you feel like you could take that child and make that child feel comfortable being the sex he or she was born with?

Answer: Clinically, I would say yes. I've seen many kids over the years present with all the indicators of GID [Gender Identity Disorder], and in terms of my quantitative measures they're very extreme. But the follow-up studies I've done, and others too, show [that] a substantial majority of kids seen for GID in childhood show desistance — that is, when they're older they don't want to be the other sex. We just published a study of 25 girls we first saw in childhood and found that only 12 percent seem to have persistent gender dysphoria when they're older.
