unranked games still exist but red heart games tend to be a bit more serious and then gold heart games are the ones in the competitive round. we're trying to promote playing better setups that end up being comped in red heart (instead of fancy pants all day every day) with the featured setups (2x the hearts and 2x the points) so if you want to learn the setups that might be a good place to start.

honestly i feel like there's rude people regardless of what game you go into, you just have to ignore them and play on.

ok wait lemme try to summarise. so red hearts are ranked games but not competitive, and golden hearts are competitive? all right. i think that makes sense.

i... have no idea what "fancy pants" is, but gl o:! im really just used to 12p closed roles because of sandbox, lol. its not bad i guess but it gets boring?

ok thats tru w/ the rude people thing but still, when its outstandingly so, its kinda hard.

If mods simply followed their own blacklisting thread it wouldn't even be a problem

and dont give me the "protecting the value of points" nonsense, either. a few years ago, there were only 3 players with 100k points and now everyone on the points hall of fame has more than that. points already mean squat thanks to being able to farm in custom lobbies.

by less stringent i mean let people play what they want with their red hearts as long as it isn't autowin for a particular side. its something i've been pushing for years.

i think the games lobby is the perfect tool to rope your friends into mafia

well yeah thats the way every rule works, germ. but the less broken rules tend to be the ones where the first punishment is more severe, i dont think a 1 hour suspension is enough for something as inexcusable as grsing.

why are you playing fp in the first place

ADVANCED: ban guns from competitive, make less stringent rules for red heart setups.

what do you mean less-stringent this is kind of the opposite of "punish grs in fp more severely"

when i played fancy pants, half of my games ended with some sore loser ragequitting. here are no excuses for quitting the game when youre losing, a 12 hour suspension is more fair than a pathetic 1 hour suspension.

i'm sorry you had to suffer through FP

if someone does it more than once they'll be punished more severly.

What happened to the wiki in the first place?

someone told me lucid deleted it?

This response piqued my interest tho, a mentoring system specifically for the first few games sounds like it'd help a lot.

that would be cool i liked that response too

@gennehfarrxD (Too long to quote)

Mentoring: Maybe someday? I was more of just saying my experience/thoughts with it.

Main Lobby: Again, no clue what red/gold heart means... The game I mentioned was an unranked Training Lobby game for when that was around, if you take anything from that. But it isn't like I'm unfamiliar with EpicMafia's roles, mechanics, how to play certain roles/set-ups... It's just, I dunno. Main's harshness.

Wiki: Yeah, it has a lot of potential to be really useful, but it's far from it by now. Maybe have a 2015 goal of starting that project back up? Lol. I'd be willing to help out if possible, and I'm sure others would too if a good effort was put towards it.

Extra Stuff: Yeah, that's what I'm reading. Worth mentioning, anyways.

Tfff I'm not really intimidated as where I feel like I don't belong. This isn't really my group, and I don't know anyone here, so it's awkward, you know? Like... moving schools or whatever. But you're welcome for giving input.

u need play with respected people, that is my advice i give to you. i suggest maybe play the red heart with people you feel comfortable with so u get used to the attitude. it is about baby step in many case if u feel nervous it is fine to feel nervous we cant all be confident at start. also i would not play the red heart mafia games too much because no one play them serious. is a lot of bad nature and meanness here but that is life. if u want help with friendly guy then u can contact me i will be friendly and understanding, after all, it is my nature.

Err... Red heart? Can I ask what that is? I keep seeing everyone say red/golden heart but as I've said, I really only Sandbox anymore. I don't know... anything about Main. But thank you for the advice. I'll look into it if I decide to pick up Main.

What happened to the wiki in the first place? I had this pastebin of notes on role mechanics all ready for when I came off hiatus but by then *poof*...

Also idr much about being new except that all the tutorials and help I could find, even for "beginners," still required some experience and I was lucky that other players helped me learn the ropes.

It's a hassle to introduce friends to the game though because it takes more investment than I'm ready for to teach them and they're ready for to learn... Not worth the effort just to play together once in a while.

I think EM would be much better off it someone just invested in a license for an actual quality (not some BB) forum software. It would make a huge difference in the quality of the site and the ability to actually have good discussion on the forum. I'd also recommend changing up the way new players are introduced to the game of mafia. I think it would be really helpful if, upon joining, a new player can optionally sign on to get a mentor for their first game or two just so that the absolute basics can be explained to them while they figure out the site. Mentors could be assigned automatically out of volunteers who just are online at the time, and they'd just be able to help for the next 15-20 minutes or so. I think the whole baptism of fire system is actually alright, but giving a little guidance would go a long way for anyone new. I know I was confused as hell for the first week or so of mafia.

I would like to have like the descriptoin of the role you got on any game like when you hover on the icon you get to see the description of the role especially on sandbox with custom roles and setup.

coded things can't be done without lucid, sorry!!

Okay so I've never tried mentoring. I was going to but I asked around and people said it was awful save for maybe 1 or 2 mentors so I didn't. So that could probably be fixed.

Also I was reading some replies and I really love the idea of a lobby for beginners to serious mafia games. I tried to learn to play serious, back when training was around. But my first game, I explained I was new to serious and had only played unserious games and I was still basically yelled at and blamed for everything wrong I was doing so it kinda shed me away. I'd totally love a lobby where it's for serious mafia but it's a lot more relaxed and intended for newbies. And hey, maybe we could STOP DUMPING NEW PLAYERS INTO MAIN LOBBY and put them in there.
