My thoughts on previous cheaters

I'm all for second chances, I screw up a ton and I'd like to think I have some leeway when I make a mistake. With that being said and in light of the new cheating allegation towards Sidekick, my philosophy with cheaters on this site is and will almost always be once a cheater always a cheater.

The reasoning behind this is because people don't just cheat for the fun of it, they cheat BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. So what in the world would create a sudden shift in skill when the cheater has been banned for 6 months. If they weren't good enough to win a trophy 6 months ago why would they be good enough to win a trophy now.

There's not even like a real penalty to cheating, you get banned for 6 months from an online java mafia site where said ban can be easily bypassed by creating another account. Like there are basically next to no consequences for cheating.

Basically formers cheaters who come back and win a trophy such as sidekick should be under extremely heavy scrutiny and I know there are players that cheated before but have "reformed," but for the most part if you didn't have the skill to win a trophy in the past, there's really no idication as to why you have the skill to win one now.

As long as we're discussing the reasons people cheat, I'll go ahead and say I'm pretty sure this is a non-factor. There are plenty of very strong players who have cheated, and extremely weak players who would never so much as consider it.

I think there are a number of reasons people do it, but for most people I imagine it's a gradual acceptance of the idea of communicating with your pals during a game. Perhaps one time you get a little too into the heat of the moment and start talking game related things. You realize after the fact that you shouldn't have done it, but what are you going to do, turn yourself in? Perhaps that dissonance is enough to make you feel OK with cheating in general as time goes on and you struggle in your games.

Or maybe when you join the site you just really don't care what the rules are, or even know them. Maybe as time goes on you learn that you're not allowed to cheat, and that the punishment is severe.. but you've been doing it all along and no one has noticed so hey you must be pretty clever. Might as well keep doing it.

Corruption deleted SuperYoshi1. I thought that worked out nicely.


He deleted all of Brett's accounts but that was a personal favor to me, basically. :) The only one he left standing was Giga96 because Giga would have flipped his ship. I like the idea too, personally.

I thought of this before and proposed it. Sachy knocked it down pretty fast though, because I said that the account should be deleted--not just the trophy. There's currently no way for us to just delete trophies. Lucid can I guess, but he's not on to handle that.


I meant deleting the entire account. Purge the evil.


Lucid doesn't like deleting accounts--I think this was the problem we finished with last time.


See the problem is that I don't even know what lucid likes and what he doesn't - he's just not there.

In what world do you live where cheating is a simple mistake to you? Especially in this example. It's not some "oh, teehee, I accidentally cheated!".

If you cheat it's a conscious, calculated effort that you're fully aware of. Take the Valve route and just perma-ban them. Jeez
