The Future Of EM

over 10 years

EM sure has fallen these past few years, things aren't the same as they were before; the player base has dropped, winning a trophy doesn't have the same hype, the forums aren't as lively, and many former active players are now inactive...

If this continues, EM could be dead within the next decade (5-10 years) or sooner, who knows. Yes, new players will come around and old players will continue to leave but it seems like we are still seeing a downward trend on the activity level of the community instead of an upward trend.

Most of EM's general population is between the ages of 13-18 so with the school season starting, Epicmafia's community will be hit hard and things will start to get worse. We have a cold winter stirring up ahead of us fellow mafioso's and it doesn't look like things are gonna get any better.

Discuss what caused EM to go downhill and what we as a community can to do to change, reform, and help EM flourish again like in the good old days.

With your brain power, we can heal the community together, one step at a time.

Eh by senior year I was itching to leave. Same in college too. Spend too much time somewhere and you'll want out eventually.

I guess my analogy is more to say that it seemed cooler because it was new and after a few years you grow a bit indifferent

this couldn't be farther from the truth, but with that said, I think that you should replace moderators with new players since new players are more likely to stick around and be passionate about EM over older players. most of the mods nowadays dont even really play mafia anymore, they just mod reports brainlessly. we need fresh and new committed players to mod us

The "new" hype lasts about a week tops.

Oh wait was this a troll thread?

It's only a troll thread if the community wants it to be. Things are whatever you make them to be.

Woah... deep.

Things are a little slow right now given the season, back to school and al that. Also, competition hasn't started yet so there are plenty of people taking a break.

As far as people who say "the site used to be better" I think a lot of that comes just from being a part of something for a long time. Being in high school probably felt much cooler to you as a freshmen than it did as a senior.

I think more advertising would help the site quite a bit. Quite honestly I'm not really sure how we get more people to join outside of word of mouth on the internet or people who google online mafia.

Either way, I think the changes made recently will help the site grow moving forward. More important than getting people to sign up is actually getting them to stay around for a while. I think one of the reasons that this doesn't happen more is because some people are pretty unwelcoming and there is a huge cliquey culture that permeates across all areas of the site.

Merging the lobbies was the right idea to bring a bigger userbase to this site and try to bring back competitions and forum activity. So far, so good.

Playing on mobile isn't the entire problem itself. I've had people tell me they were lurking because they were playing at work or school.

I think that advertising the site would bring more traffic and quality players, particularly if we targeted the gamer-geeks. I would advise a fundraiser of some sort or some sort of social media campaign.

What about a "no mobile players" game-specific setting?
over 10 years
Playing on the phone is not easy from my experience voting on the sideboard takes some getting used to, plus sometimes it glitches and when you type something it doesn't register. So mobile site is difficult to use in game, if an app had better mechanics then maybe that'd be a boost?

I'm not looking forward to the inpour of mobile-noobs that will veg or cause the game to be unplayable because playing and typing on a 5"x3" screen is completely ridiculous.

if u think about it, a mobile app would breed a new market of players who can only play from their smart phones thus increasing the playerbase. some people only discover games from the mobile app. the fact that EM doesnt have a mobile app in 2014 is a detriment to its growth and prosperity

I know that the mobile app would boost the amount of users on this site a lot and expose it to a wider audience. But I'm also sad for the fact that game play quality will decrease. It will be a lot harder to moderate those using mobile, especially for mechanical errors like misclicked, vegging, etc. People's reaction time will be a lot slower in games. Even cheating will be a lot easier on mobile between friends that are sitting next to eachother.

I'm completely for the app. I'm just not looking forward to the negative effects it will have on game quality.

I've legitimately played over 1000 games on a phone, it's possible and it makes it easier for some people to play
