Cheating Investigation Unit

almost 11 years

We are looking for a group of community members to be a part of a full-time Cheating Investigation Unit (CIU). We feel that this will streamline cheating investigations, make less work for mods and community members who dedicate their time to it, as well as get more people involved in the community. Our hope is to catch more cheaters and deter people from cheating, as we will be able to use this team as a more vigilant watch.

This will be a team supervised by the mod team. You will be invited to a skype chat where round investigations will be discussed. This will be overseen by myself as well as any mods interested in assisting in handling cheating. We will be your go to people for any information or guidance you may need during the investigative process.

This would largely mean looking through games played and reading games of players near the top of the scoreboard, checking for any instances of rolesharing, meta abuse, multi-accounting or any form of cheating / sketchy play. This would also include making piratepads/pastebins or any sort of documents summarizing the games in question and what the alleged cheater is being accused of. With a sizable team of cheating investigators split between the two lobbies, we can effectively quash cheating more efficiently and prevent things from slipping through the cracks, as well as preventing the round from being paused needlessly.

This position would commit you to various levels of work, depending on demand and whether or not there is cheating present. We are looking for people with a strong interest in catching cheaters, experience in creating pastebins, and an in-depth knowledge of past cheaters and their tells.

If you are interested in being a part of the Cheating Investigation Unit, please copy the following application, fill it out with your info and PM it to me. I'll be accepting applications on a rolling basis and adding people to the team on an as needed basis.

Here is the application questionnaire: PMs not in this format will be ignored.

Name:

Date:

  1. Why do you want to be a part of the EM Round Cheating Squad?

  2. When it comes to cheating, what do you think you're best at detecting?

  3. Have you ever cheated before, and if so, how did you cheat?

  4. Have you done any sort of investigative work before? If so, could you provide some examples of your work?

  5. If there's any other important information we should know about you, please say so here.

you're saying that they'll help the mods find cheaters, ok, but bronto also wants people who can make pastebins and look through tons of games to find cheating, which you would need someone that you can a) trust to do the right thing and b) trust that they would actually catch the cheaters, and the best way to find those people is to ask them directly

i have no idea what you're arguing for or what point you're trying to make

Why would people want to do that lol.

The problem is it has to be solid evidence too. Because if it's not they will complain to lucid and he will come over turn it even if they did cheat.

This is not about making a Decide Cheating team. This is an investigative team, it makes no tough calls, it doesn't decide anybody's future.

It's like asking for more police force, and you are saying, but the President doesn't like innocent people's prosecution. They don't really overlap..

Being passionate means a lot of things, but most of all - time. Cheating takes up tremendous time with rereading tons of games, summarizing etc.

Again, this is a mod-helping unit, not on-par with mods, by far. They won't do any moderating or accusing. Just help the mods.

arcbell was also a pretty mediocre cheating mod and never made big enough cheating decisions to judge him accurately

lucid has stated many times that he doesn't appreciate people being banned for cheating when they didn't, and he's more than willing to demod people for making the wrong call. you need to keep *** like that in mind, because these "cheating mods" are going to be making pretty heavy decisions regarding the rounds and if runners are going to be banned or not. you need to have a team that you can trust to not only do the right thing but also make the right call, and going straight to them would be the best way to get a team like that.

being passionate doesn't mean anything. being a cheating mod requires a lot more than passion to be decent, which is (one of the reasons) why cloudminnion isn't a good cheating mod.

then he should go out and find those people who are willing and would be good instead of having them go to him, imo

Send PM's to everybody on the site asking if they'd be willing?

You are thinking a bit too high of Bronto if you think he is all knowing and would know who has good potential at catching cheaters and who hasn't (excluding people who already have proven themselves).

Point is not crying back people who used to do it, but are not here/not interested/don't have the time/can't work in a team/... Point is finding people who are passionate and WANT TO do it. Even if they are not the best at it by default, simply giving out games to people with average intelligence and telling them what to look for is still a huge help on the cheating mods.

He has an unfair advantage over everyone else, he knows how a cheater thinks having done so with you.

Those who they would want to do it. Wouldnt.

instead of having people apply, you should approach the people you want personally. investigating cheating is incredibly difficult and time consuming and you're very prone to lucid's scrutiny, so you need people you really trust

I tend to agree with Steven, the idea is good. But some are just good to find cheaters, and maybe being in a team, or having a "position" (working with mods, looking "important") can like... move them (probably not the proper wording, but it's 1.20 am, sorry for that). They could try harder and get less cheaters, bc of pressure, or they could try less hard bc "there's the rest of the team..." and find less, or they could try the same as not having a team (not working with team, or doing it) and having the same results.

Just like Steven said, it depends more on the people you pick (or who offer themselves) than on the system. They should be balanced people, not easily pliable, and I THINK, community should NOT KNOW who they are. Just like secret services. That would help them to have less pressure on them to find cheaters (and also to be avoided by them, or hacked, etc.)
Also, but that's quite obvious, should not have any precedent for cheating, I think... or if they do have it and you still choose to pick them, they should be now totally redeemed (people who we now know are totally identified with the community, I hope you are understanding what I'm trying to say, I'm tired and probably not choosing the right words)

Just my opinion, obviously.

And who makes the final decision. What happens when these people dial 911- Lucid and Lucid comes and spanks them?( the cheating team not the cheater)
