Cheating Investigation Unit

almost 11 years

We are looking for a group of community members to be a part of a full-time Cheating Investigation Unit (CIU). We feel that this will streamline cheating investigations, make less work for mods and community members who dedicate their time to it, as well as get more people involved in the community. Our hope is to catch more cheaters and deter people from cheating, as we will be able to use this team as a more vigilant watch.

This will be a team supervised by the mod team. You will be invited to a skype chat where round investigations will be discussed. This will be overseen by myself as well as any mods interested in assisting in handling cheating. We will be your go to people for any information or guidance you may need during the investigative process.

This would largely mean looking through games played and reading games of players near the top of the scoreboard, checking for any instances of rolesharing, meta abuse, multi-accounting or any form of cheating / sketchy play. This would also include making piratepads/pastebins or any sort of documents summarizing the games in question and what the alleged cheater is being accused of. With a sizable team of cheating investigators split between the two lobbies, we can effectively quash cheating more efficiently and prevent things from slipping through the cracks, as well as preventing the round from being paused needlessly.

This position would commit you to various levels of work, depending on demand and whether or not there is cheating present. We are looking for people with a strong interest in catching cheaters, experience in creating pastebins, and an in-depth knowledge of past cheaters and their tells.

If you are interested in being a part of the Cheating Investigation Unit, please copy the following application, fill it out with your info and PM it to me. I'll be accepting applications on a rolling basis and adding people to the team on an as needed basis.

Here is the application questionnaire: PMs not in this format will be ignored.

Name:

Date:

  1. Why do you want to be a part of the EM Round Cheating Squad?

  2. When it comes to cheating, what do you think you're best at detecting?

  3. Have you ever cheated before, and if so, how did you cheat?

  4. Have you done any sort of investigative work before? If so, could you provide some examples of your work?

  5. If there's any other important information we should know about you, please say so here.

If you're going to have people apply for a nonexistent position, give it some substance.

Honestly, that's the equivalent of making independent investigations, which already happens anyway. Some cheating reports have been sitting in IP since two weeks ago.

they don't get any mod powers or responsibilities other than helping look through games, and if something comes up, launching an investigation.

I think this is why people are saying its so pointless.

I already talked to you about some of the possible issues so I won't reiterate those here, but my initial post saying that it will entirely depend on the people you get rather than the system (cause really it's just getting a bunch of people together system-wise) remains.

Pointing out the irony isn't being salty. :)

Arcbell quit on his own accord from cheating mod.

Ucklar's Dad was one of the people I had in mind for this, if I think Ucklar's Dad is who I think he is.

Now now, Howl, let's not be salty.

Gira and Riot are still the only two people who've caught a significant amount of people in the past two-three years, and... well...

Which is why I'm trying to get non-mods to help out, because most of the best people at cheater-catching cannot be moderators, whether it be because they cheated or other reasons.

BUT, I feel like you guys should have to read/skim over the work of the CIU, and make sure that everything is in check. Mods should still look it over in case of any mistakes and they'd catch it before the ban.

Of course, this is essential. That's why they're working with the mods. The main idea is to split up work of cheating investigations, namely in looking out for sketchy games and writing up pastebins if need be. I mean having a few extra people who you have a good line of communication and who are looking through the round daily for sketchy games will probably help deter cheating, but also help us catch it faster so we don't have to pause the round for 3 days.

Dezeriae is pretty much on point with what I'm aiming for here. The CIU is a team of outside consultants who are willing to look through games and help out with cheating investigations. They're not trial mods, they don't get any mod powers or responsibilities other than helping look through games, and if something comes up, launching an investigation. Having some people combing through the round and saying whether games are sketchy or not is a good thing imo.

As far a experience, well yeah this is going to be the issue. Unfortunately, there aren't a ton of people who like doing cheating or are good at it. There are very few mods who are interested in this line of work and I myself dislike dealing with investigations too heavily too, which is why I want a separate team of people to help the mods with cheating to make investigations less time consuming.

This isn't really different than me going out and asking a few non-mods to help with an investigation. Maybe I'm not conveying the point clearly enough here. I think this could work, and if it doesn't then we tried it and know it doesn't. There's very little harm in this imo.

They might as well do it themselves

I like this idea, a lot. I feel like this would have been a perfect thing for Arcbell to manage since he is an amazing investigator at finding cheating. BUT, I feel like you guys should have to read/skim over the work of the CIU, and make sure that everything is in check. Mods should still look it over in case of any mistakes and they'd catch it before the ban.

"CIU" people do not need mod powers in the first place, they should be willing to do it just because they want to help the site. Venus, Love, and Gist made the most valid points.

ask petri to do it!

This is a bad idea.

I dont see why anyone would want to do this.. no offence

Agreed.

You have a bunch of ex mods telling you it's a bad idea as well. Don't do this.
