Hello there fellow sandboxers.
I am in uni doing a unit called PSYCH100 and my lecturer told me the best way to learn is to teach others and if you can then you know you got the info down gucci.
SO I've decided to teach yall about psychology! I will try to sum up or say a little bit about diff stuff i learn in class.
i may or may not drop this after like a week or 2 cause i never push through with stuff i set out to do but who cares yolo lets give this a try!!
Its gonna be I think broad forensic stuff unless I decide to specialise in it which probs won't happen but forensic and general psychology are interconnected anyways.
In about an hour ill sum up my week 2 notes topic: History of psychology
what is it called when your mood defaults to sad instead of content/happy? so like if youre not particularly feeling anything then youre sad. i know the answer i just wanna know if you do :D im hepling you. trust me i am
I was going to make a joke about how psychology is to psychiatry as chiropractor is to actual doctor, but that is unfair... Psychologists can treat more than hypochondria.
Nnn its ok this can be an open discussion. Guess ma lecturer didnt know or generalised . She seemed pretty happy w.e we referred to psychology as a science nnn
cognitive - to do with memory, recall and attention
personality - how your actions correlate to your personality and how experiences shape your personality
behavior - why we do what we do - where do these behaviors come from?
developmental - research of the mind over a life span - a lot of research in regards to children.
biological - how the mind and our body's actions correlate. - how our nerve system reacts and send mssgs to our brains that makes us act in certain ways - the chemicals in our brains induced by certain emotions.
social - how our behaviors and mental processes are influenced by those around us.
clinical - i think this is mostly about treatment?
these are the 9 practice areas:
sport - post sport injury trauma, stuff like that. you can work with athletes which is dope.
community - working with communities to better develop them - at risk communities - health initiatives like alcohol preventative methods.
counselling - in schools, marriage counselling, career - therapy.
education and developmental - also in schools - curriculum design - teacher training.
health - helping those with chronic illnesses and diseases
forensic - criminals, prisons - works in a court - rehabilitation
organisational - workplace stuff, restructuring to make people more productive
clinical/clinical neuropsychology - Evaluation, diagnosis and treatment Clients: ppl with psychological disorders, severe behavioural or emotional problems/individuals with a neurological disorder
i think the 9th is behavioural? studying the way we behave and how it affects and stuff.
Psychology is the study and science of the mental conditions, emotions and behaviors of people (although they test stuff on animals too).
it is not the same as a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is more for prescribing meds and stuff like that.
Why is it a science? I recon its cause firstly the mind is a vast existence thats only partially been solved and unraveled. You have to write up "lab reports" based on experiments your do and find, like in science, the method, result, the abstract and stuff like that. in addition its something you research and find evidence for questions you raise. Which is what you do in science.
