On the 24th, Lucid added a Famine role called Gingerbread Man and as we were talking, I mentioned how I found Famine to be a cool but underused concept. He and I agreed that maybe I should try to compile a list of stuff that could be added/changed to improve the Famine concept.
Until this year, we only had one Famine role. Now we have three. Are there any roles that should have interaction with the Famine mechanics? Was Werewolf ever changed to survive the Famine by eating people? Are there any new roles or items that could be added to improve and expand the Famine?
- Cannot gather their own food supply. - Has to visit one person every night. - Eats 1 piece of target's food. - If they don't eat during the famine they die. - Sided with the village
It could also work as mafia that doesn't attend the meeting or even third party that has to survive till the end.
Gardener -Person who visits Gardener at night gets a carrot -If visited by more than one person the carrot is given out randomly. -If not visited, Gardener gets the carrot. -Carrot works like bread. -Sided with the village.
I remember that in 2016 there was a suggested role like Gardener called Farmer, basically giving out bread while immune to the famine themselves. I don't know why it never got added, but I do know it was probably related to us arguing about whether or not Famine was worth expanding at all.

I think if lucid adds a boatload of role interactions it would be great since baker is primarily used in closed roles, but also would open room to making new bread-related roles to make this underused idea more fleshed out.
To add on: - Poisoner should immediately spoil someone's bread, so the next day they consume their last bread and only have that day left to live - Additional bakers should be immune to famine - A virgin sacrifice could lead to a special event like "after the sacrifice, the town pulls together to find two extra bread for everyone!" to prolong the game another whole day/night cycle
- Start survivor with an extra piece of bread. - Cheffed persons both get a piece of bread. - If famine is active, forager will always forage another piece of bread. - Werewolf gets bread when they eat someone. - When rainmaker makes a storm, everyone gets 1 bread.
If I could be honest, there should be a higher emphasis on famine. Maybe something like "The baker has died! A famine begins." then each cycle you get a "You consume some of your food... you have X bread left", while a WW eating would get "Devouring the flesh of an innocent fills you with vigor for the day!"
