Hello everyone, we are excited to announce round III is here!

The theme chosen by the public was Heartbreaking songs

with 17 votes out of 59

NOW WE HAVE OUR FIRST TWIST!

AND THE TWIST IS

MASHUP

Theme selection for round three of the singing competition will open on the 19th of April alongside the participants songs! (Results for round 3 will come Sunday 22nd of April!)

so i did a mini mashup with 'the script - breakeven' (it was the background music choice as well), 'avril lavigne - my happy ending' and a very little of 'the calling - adrienne' :) this will likely never happen again and tbh i was this close to not posting it but i cant pretend i didnt mention it now lol. wouldve loved to try and make it better but dont think it'll happen so voila~

i actually meant idk the songs well enough to know if u sang more than one part in there lol, there were like two chunks of songs u sang that i had never heard of so i didnt know if they were different random songs or also from all star and give you up :p

i dont know those songs but from what i think i know, thats more like a medley since u just sang part of one song then next song then another song then another; for a mashup u need to mix up the same songs in the sense that u sing a section of one song then a section of a diff one then u revisit the same songs somewhere else down the line, i believe thats the key difference with a mashup and a medley.

so lets say songs r represented by a letter: a medley will have u singing parts of each different song like A then B then C - D, a mashup could be like A then B then back to A - C - B - A - D - A - D, u dont just move from one song to another and never go back, ur mashing up the songs all together and mixing up different bits.

hope that makes sense?? idk if i over-explained to the point it doesnt make sense rip

imo you dont need to produce a backing track urself if you dont know where to start, if you can use one backing track and sing a couple different songs with it you should be alright.
e.g: ariana grandes mashup of two songs featuring just one generally consistent background track that worked with both songs - https://youtu.be/lWtCdee7gS4?t=17s

if you want to try acapella you could always attempt something like what they do on pitch perfect which isn't easy by any means but could produce a good effect. using audio layovers would be necessary.

i think u shoud just try one or two things out and see how you get along then when u figured out what you want to do u can ask for confirmation but as long as u got 2 or more songs mixed up in one go it should be ok.


I love how I used the term audio layover to describe recording over something in my audition, and now everyone is using that term to describe making a new audio layer.
