Hello Sandbox!

Posting here isn't something that I often do, but I have noticed people here are a lil more artistically inclined than the other lobbies, and are also more engaging and fun to talk to so I've decided to make this thread here.

At any rate, this is a long-term project created by someone who obsessed with film! It's Basil's Film Journal

Basically I'm going to list the films that I want to watch and organize them, and might post a hot take or two about movies I have recently seen. I hope to have written my first script by the end of college!

watching seven samurai on a road trip

prepared to be shook to my core honestly and I think it’ll likely be an addition to the perfect films list but we shall see

I bet none of the people that hate la la land saw it or even knew what it was before it got all the nominations

except maybe sana and yeasayer u guys are ok

i forgot abt this thread but yes i watched it in cinema cos i liked the idea of a throwback hollywood movie since i love classic romance films and was pumped for it (plus gosling/stone reunion yiisss) and almost left but i value my money lol. it was not bad it was just very overhyped and the ending whilst trying to be realistic was lacklustre in its execution. the songs were also not that great, i only liked two whew. it's just most definitely not a perfect movie to me.

it's funnier when you go back and read other horror movie boxes/cases and many of them say that they're going to do to X what Jaws did to the Ocean!

speaking of great whites I will watch jaws tonight for the first time since I was a kid. I already have a lot of beef with that movie for demonizing a beautiful creature forever but we’ll see maybe I’ll still like it

put a pin in this for now

watched Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Conversation” on a flight today

what a movie. honestly I feel like I need to sit on it before I decide on a verdict but it’s really something. tonally it reminded me a lot of Chinatown, and Gene Hackman is an absolute master of subtlety here. some side characters kind of left me a little cold and there are definitely pacing issues, but the ending was a phenomenal brutally stone cold payoff. only time will tell how long this one’s gonna stay with me

also a really interesting fun fact about this movie is that Coppola wanted to make this way before “The Godfather” but no studio was sold on it until after the success of that film
