Hello Sandbox!

Posting here isn't something that I often do, but I have noticed people here are a lil more artistically inclined than the other lobbies, and are also more engaging and fun to talk to so I've decided to make this thread here.

At any rate, this is a long-term project created by someone who obsessed with film! It's Basil's Film Journal

Basically I'm going to list the films that I want to watch and organize them, and might post a hot take or two about movies I have recently seen. I hope to have written my first script by the end of college!

Need you movie nerds to make your best attempt in convincing me that Little Nicky starring Adam Sandler wasn't the most underrated film of all time.

a month ago I would’ve replied with something hyperbolic like “Adam Sandler has never been in a good movie” but punch drunk love dramatically changed that for me

also ive never seen it lol

basil, we have six conversations going on right now. WATCH twin peaks. laura palmer is my everything.

agreed i have a fire walk with me banner, a painting of audrey horne i bought at a twin peaks art show (bc sherilyn fenn = heart eyes), and three twin peaks post cards all hanging up in my room as we speak

AUDREY IS ICONIC. my favorite is and will always be laura, followed closely by dale and shelly (they’re tied, it’s the only way.)

Edward scissorhands is a movie that you will ABSOLUTELY find trite if you watch it at the wrong point in life but as a fledgling snob it's very important to remember that all good filmmaking isn't Good Filmmaking

if you watch it again, let me know your thoughts. i think it's another one i like for purely visual reasons although the story is also really creative and interesting. but THOSE COLORS. it's the same reasoning behind the immense love i have for beetlejuice.

DOUBTFUL it’ll overcome Ed Wood tho. but it’s probably as good as everyone says it is. i don’t really even remember what turned me off at that time

but I would’ve never watched half the stuff I watch now back then so lol

before I was really into burton I tried watching Edward scissorhands and I was immediately turned off by it as a 9th grader, and I haven’t gotten back to it ever since

which I should put some effort into going back and watching it cause it’s been a while since 9th grade

NOT to be soft or anything but i may have cried at multiple points. like, i really love tommy wiseau as a person even if he's just a massive meme and it was nice to see his story played out even if i'm a little biased, but i felt like at the heart of it, it was this fantastic and equally hilarious and heartfelt movie about persistence and following your dreams even when the odds are completely stacked against you.

that’s completely fair, the movie definitely had a lot of heart and I did really like it a lot

it just doesn’t rank that high up for me because I kept comparing it in my head to Ed Wood, which is honestly one of my favorite movies ever made. granted disaster artist WAS a great time I laughed a lot and felt the heart wrenching moments but in terms of originality I felt like the feels moments were stuff I got off Ed Wood in more subtle and inventive ways. still it’s not fair to compare these movies, but it gave disaster artist a lower “originality factor” score in my head compared to other movies I saw this year (baby driver, lady bird, get out, 3 billboards, logan, et cetera)

still good though. still very good

i remember skimming pages when you first mentioned him but i didn't see whether or not you'd already watched twin peaks? if you haven't, that's another visually stunning thing he's done that i think you'd really enjoy.

yea I said I needed to watch it at some point in my life, maybe take some time off movie binging eventually
