My personal thread.

Reading a couple of other personal threads inspired me to make my own. So here we are.

I also make music. Here's all the tracks I've created if you're interested in listening to them.

Why you should stick to poker with a proper bankroll management :3 and that's why mtts are better than cash games. It's draining when you know every hand has an impact on the amount of cash you win. When you think about tournaments, the hands themselves don't mean too much so every hand isn't as draining

It goes downhill from here. As the days go by, I constantly find myself going home with an empty wallet, and I refill it with the stored cash. The thrill of gambling still had me completely hooked. I don’t come to play poker anymore, just looking for a quick big win. The concept of money was flying over my head at that point. I was too fixated on winning. And sometimes I did win. I would win a $25 bet on the green 0 in roulette. I would win $200 bets on red or black. I would win some cash in the table games as well. When I lost, I would simply tell myself I’ll try again next time. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out I was losing a lot more than winning.

I wasn’t keeping track of my winnings and losings anymore. And there came a point where I ran out of money. But I just needed to play some more, so I would withdraw money from the ATM. I would keep withdrawing and withdrawing, until eventually my bank account ran out of money too. Here’s the worst part: all of this happened in the span of 2 months.

Since I ran out of money, I couldn’t gamble anymore. I wasn’t about to put myself in debt. I haven’t bothered to look for a job since [almost, there were a few odd jobs] (this is something I may talk about in a different topic), and it is why I am still broke today. Thankfully my family still houses me so I’m not completely f*cked.

So how do I approach gambling today? It’s kinda weird to see how much you’ve lost to gambling, and still you wanna go gamble. You’d think I’ve learned my lesson. But I can’t lie, I would love to go gamble right now. And I still do gamble occasionally, but it’s a lot more controlled than before. I gamble MUCH less frequently, but when I do, I risk hundreds of dollars. The fantasy of winning big is never going to truly leave me, I fear. I just love the idea of instantly winning a lot of money.

And that’s my point of view on gambling addiction.

Slowly, my visits to the casino altered from playing poker to playing other pure luck casino games. The idea of winning big was thrilling. The games were thrilling. And I don’t know, I would just love to win big at least once. The casino had me hooked, I was obsessed with everything about it, I was always looking at the possibility of winning mad cash, no matter how small the odds. So what happens next?

I got lucky. In one of the table games, I won $3,500 in a single round. If only I could describe how it felt back then. Absolute shock. Even today, I still remember it as one of the times I was the most ecstatic in my life. This was amazing, I literally won more than I could make in a summer. I also had enough to where I could try the even bigger games or not worry too much about putting hundreds of dollars on roulette. It felt a bit surreal to be carrying over $4000 cash in my wallet that night. Cash that I won in a game of luck.

When I won, I haven’t told anyone. Mostly because I didn’t want my family to learn I was gambling and invoke disapproval from them. I thought about saying that this was money I won from poker but I wouldn’t be able to keep winning at that rate, so it’s a lie I wouldn’t be able to hold up. So I kept my winnings to myself, and stored the cash somewhere safe in the house.

Let’s talk about gambling.

I’ve never told anyone about my adventures in gambling at the casino. To some of you, I may have said a tale here or there, but anything that made me look like a major fool, I simply kept it to myself. Because let me tell you, I’ve lost a ton of money on these games of chance, and I avoided telling anyone due to how ashamed I felt about it. And as the years go by, it starts feeling like a distant memory. At this point I would rather share my losses than keep it a secret, I don’t really care how stupid it makes me look.

I had this topic in mind when I created this thread.

Now, most of my gambling happened when I was 18-19 years old. My initial goal was to win money off poker. So one night I head to the casino, and I told myself if I lost, I’d just stop. I put $140 at stake, and went back home that night with $300. Wow. Talk about a good start. I was hooked. Throughout the month, I kept coming back and playing, and overall I’d do okay, sometimes I’d win, sometimes I’d lose, but I was in the green.

The problem with playing poker, is that it gets draining. You’re sitting at the table for hours on end waiting for the perfect opportunity to come by. You’re constantly trying to get reads on people and understand their playstyles. Most of the time, you’re folding your starting hands because there’s just too little potential with it. You just know you’re going to lose with this hand, so why bother? And sometimes I’d get involved in the hand, and surprise, the board doesn’t help me at all and there’s still like 4-5 opponents. Because people don’t fold. So I’m not winning this hand either. When I do have a playable scenario I still have to risk my money to win it. In short, winning scenarios came by so rarely, or not fast enough, so I’d get fed up with it and leave, deciding to risk my money on quicker games of chance. Like, roulette, or table games against the house. The ones where you could win big especially got my attention.

which do you like more, hosting or playing and why?

Hmm, I've never really thought about it until now.

I often find myself saying "man I wish I was playing right now" and much less the other way around so I prefer playing. While I do enjoy coming up with creative challenges/messing with the players and having an omniscient perspective, running a game requires you to do so many things right and you are restricted in what you can say and giving your opinions, which can become irritating at times. Also, there's are times I land with a cast that just isn't exciting at all and I would rather quit right now instead of going through the motions for hours, but I don't quit b/c I don't want to be known as an unreliable host.

I enjoy the possibilities that the game has to offer. I see it as an extremely complicated game of human chess. Each time, the situation is different: What people want and how they operate is different, you are able to influence what other people do, and they in turn can change what you do or what the people around you do. Also, this is far from a game of perfect information so reading people's true intent becomes necessary. Finding a creative way through this web of deception to be one of the last standing is what makes this game so exciting. And overall is more fun than hosting.

what’s your take on america’s contemporary sociopolitical climate

A lot of people are worried about Trump being president, but I don't think it's going to change much for the American citizens. The real owners of the country are still in power, like they've always been, constantly finding ways to make your average citizen poorer and poorer and obedient to the system that favours the very rich. Just look at what they've recently pulled with the net neutrality thing.

I heavily dislike how politics work because it's a game to win approval from the masses and it's filled with corruption + special interests or whatever where the president doesn't really have power in the end anyways. So really, I see politics as a form of entertainment, and it may or may not be interesting to see how the politicians play the game. I'm happy with how politics are right now because it gets people thinking and has been quite entertaining, I enjoyed watching Trump's progress from clown to president.

Would you rather lose ALL of your memories and everything you learned of the last 5 years, and continue life in 2017 as a 5 years younger version of yourself in current body most likely impacting your life differently? Or just simply lose both legs and be in a wheelchair forever?

Agreed with Basil, I don't mind experiencing 5 less years of life if it means keeping my legs.

Do you think my gameplay has improved in sbb compared to me in embb3?

I barely remember your EMBB3 game, sorry. It didn't leave an impression (good or bad) on me.

Your SBBB3 game was decent. You knew right away who would get far and who wouldn't, you also knew how to position yourself to be relatively safe. You had the right ideas. Although the way you went at trying to get your targets (uprizzle, xfire) out could've been better. When you were talking to me it felt super evident that you were trying to plant seeds for me to focus on xfire/uprizzle, and to me I'm like "why would I care if they get far lmao." Perhaps the others had a similar train of thought. If you want someone gone you have to show what makes them dangerous to the person you're talking to.

Here is a list of things you should not do if you want to be a better survivor/bb player! Part one is understanding why these moves/mentalities are bad, and it should take care of itself from there.

Do you plan on making purely instrumental music or are you interested in mixing in vocals too?

I think mixing with vocals would be fun.
