I think that if EpicMafia had a more complex graphical mode and it was the default rather than text mode, then it would be more appealing to people and pull away from Town of Salem. I don't even mean crazy diversified graphics and animations all over the place like on ToS, but just a few backgrounds to cycle through and sprites to sprinkle throughout, along with a bigger and opaque text box.

they also have a point about mort, in a jan game mort makes jan pointless and consequently makes itself pointless unless there's multiple killers and multiple killers is bad setup design anyway
but mort is basically a game mode role just nobody considers that because game mode roles are a bad idea unless the role influences game mode (like baker)
roles like nurse combine two conflicting roles to create a trade-off, you'd never drunk a pr and you'd always save a pr (again they probably just think it's a combo role and don't realize that)
you could just explain to them why roles like these are good and probably convince some people interested in the game of mafia to try em
you could tell them how voodoo makes town pick their words carefully, which is an important skill in mafia, and also allows mafia some contingency against being revealed by reckless reporting roles

this is a good example of someone who just has the wrong impression from only playing either nonsense setups with roles like maid or from jumping straight to ridiculously complex setups (like reverse mafia i guess i never played it)
some conversion roles are bad: maid is awful under all circumstances due to being block-proof, zombie is awful under all circumstances due to the shared win condition making not jointing pointless as well as balancing issues, etc.
masons, though, are an excellent conversion role that allows town to sacrifice possible prs in exchange for group clearing as well as risking mismason and recruiting potentially mafia-sided thirds
you know all of this but they probably don't and if they did they might find an appreciation for mafia implementations like em
