i feel like you didn't even read my essay. i pretty much agree that nintendo is wrong for having a crappy service when they're charging for it. i don't see how saying "give it a year and if it doesn't get better, don't resubscribe" makes me a fanboy. clearly i'll spare $20 to play smash ultimate online, if the service sucks then oh well, fool me once. i don't fanboy over any of the big 3 anyways. they could all be doing what they do on a more open platform and their decision not to is purely to screw over the consumer for more money. what's there to fanboy in that?
i'll agree with this if the service still sucks in a year. for now we spare a small amount of money to play smash online. fool me once, as they say.
also why nes games?? there are like six nes games that didn’t age like butt and they’re all mega man. i wouldnt mind paying for the same roms AGAIN if they were actually playable and fun. Or at least games that are worth playing online with friends. give me super mario kart or heck give me smash 64 as well. but no here’s
i kinda wanna get a switch eventually but holy crap why is nintendo so cheap sony: pay for online and get AAA games nintendo: pay for online and get... uhhhhhhh...... yeah i guess you can have these NES games that even a 200$ craptop can emulate
honestly hate this argument; Sony proved with the PS3 that consumers don't give a single shit about games or external features by the fact that nobody paid $50 a year for PS+ there because they could play online for free. now suddenly PS+ is required for online and MILLIONS are more than willing to pay $60 a year for it despite the PS4 ALREADY being bigger than the PS3 ever was.
if you wanna complain about switch online sucking, the price is the last thing to ever complain about because it's 1/3rd the price of the competition, and something nobody would ever pay for if it wasn't required to play online. plus just take a second to remember that nintendo's competition has been doing it for years, be happy that nintendo is, for ONCE, not charging $60 for something that the competition is.
put your voice to good use and complain about the server quality. complain about over a decade of excuses being used just to have servers that still suck when we're now PAYING to use them.
brawl: "dude this is nintendo's first attempt at online play. give them time to get better" 6 years and no improvement in server quality. sm4sh: "dude this is nintendo's first attempt at HD so them not charging for online like microsoft and sony are makes server stability hard to manage. give them time to get better" 4 years and no improvement in server quality. ultimate: "dude this is... uh... yeah i got nothing"
i'll give nintendo a year to get better, for now i'll pretend my $20 for switch online was a deposit towards ultimate since the game is definitely worth $80. but if it's still this way in a year, fuuck nintendo i'll stick to local multiplayer for smash.
but i don't have a lot to say about the fighters as a whole so far, save for the new ones; simon/richter are great as projectile-based fighters but are very clunky and not something your typical bayo/diddy main will like. ridley is about as average as they get which is sad. ken is hot (no pun intended). k rool and isabelle are both very op but for different reasons. inkling is very well-rounded and probably all around mid A tier. after using him in about 80 battles since ultimate release, incineroar is now my #1 2v2 main but is very limited in 1v1 due to revenge; honestly really sad considering he has so many viable options in 2v2 that he doesn't even NEED revenge there, but in 1v1 it holds him back a lot. would have like to see a very different kit from what he got, considering alolan whip and suplex are two things that weren't at all present in sumo whatsoever. haven't (and likely won't ever) play chrom or dark samus.
currently my go-tos are: 1v1 - maining isabelle, possibly pokemon trainer. either one as main/pocket is ok for me. other pockets are jigglypuff, pichu, and sheik. 100% maining joker when he comes out, regardless of how he plays. 2v2 - maining incineroar. pockets are pikachu, inkling, and k rool.
hope everyone is having fun, please add me if you're ever looking for someone to chill with (down for anything, 1v1 2v2 ffa w/e you want, just know i'm not very good atm). SW-2994-1069-3110
also have a smash discord if you're interested in joining, lemme know if so!
hello fellow smashers. ya boi David here with his "brawl player who never had a Wii U and thus now knows nothing and sucks at smash" first-impressions on ultimate.
world of light is a cool mode, a great idea and fun for sure but something you'll find irritating if you're primarily an online player who only really plays a few characters (i'd say one main and 3-4 pocket picks). some of the parts are unnecessarily difficult, even on easy. also, without spoiling anything, galeem isn't the final boss.
unlocking fighters outside of wol is a very familiar experience, but also a lot more and also a lot less tedious at the same time. there are more fighters, but not only do you get challengers faster than in past games (significantly faster, at that), but you can also rematch them at will (any time after 10 minutes since your last fight with them has ended) and with ANY fighter, as opposed to having to use the one you last fought with when getting them randomly after regular battles.
as a long-time brawl player, i love the gameplay. the changes since brawl are great; good to see tripping is still gone, a slight nerf to teching so people have less of a reason to force lag in quickplay, and most of the balance changes feel nice with how most characters' kits haven't really been affected (mostly noticed how sonic combos completely different from how he did in brawl despite still being the same character as a whole).
of all the balance changes, i'm only really bothered by how all of them positively affect pikachu; he's not meta knight brawl or bayonetta sm4sh level, but he's certainly still significantly better than any other fighter to the point where pichu is still low S-high A tier despite literally being a lighter pikachu that takes damage from its own attacks. as much as i hate the idea of nerfing things significantly, i really do think pikachu needs a nerf.
it was announced a month ago of a "smash pass" where you could spend 25 dollars to get 5 characters with respective stages and such as DLC, or 6 dollars a piece individually(so it'd come out to 30 without the pass). This was planned because these characters would be Incorporated into the game after the game's release with deadlines and such
I dunno if I'd call it a good deal at all, but I'm a casual player so what do I know
This is where i first heard it too. I watched half of the game awards then fell asleep and saw this post. I just ignored it at first cuz I was like, oh irrelevant persona (why would they ever be involved with Nintendo??) and then it slowly dawned on me.... I missed Nintendo's reveal, was it a new smash character, is it actually Joker. Wew
