The question posed in this thread is not necessarily one of the moderation team, the site owner lucidrains/Phillip Wang, or other moderators/admins on the moderation team of this website.
People are calling for Ethereal's head because they were recently promoted from role moderator to moderator. The people calling for Ethereal to be demodded are generally viewing and accusing Ethereal as a predator.
My question is, if you guys care so much about Ethereal being a potential predator, should you not be arguing that Ethereal should be site banned? (Personally, I don't think Ethereal should be site banned. She has done her time for being banned and is currently a very big help for the moderators and cheating investigation team, in my opinion.) Your argument seems to not want to rid the website of possible predators, but to just make sure they don't become moderators. It doesn't really make much sense to me.
And even if Ethereal is demodded, guess what? She's still going to help with Cheating cases and finding banned users... nothing is going to change (except that she won't be able to do reports). Is that really going to be a sigh of relief for all of you?
So if Ethereal is demodded, what difference is it to you people if she's still allowed to be on the website...?

I am in favour of demodding Ethereal to please the community fwiw (I was before I even made this thread), but if we do that I don't really get why they are even allowed to be on the site anyways. I'm seeing these arguments I just don't agree with them; potential is potential at the end of the day, and I believe Ethereal should be allowed to stay on the site
That pretty much sums up most peoples' position with Ethereal. It's not like they chose to have their biology orientated in such a way.
I'd be behind you if they were in fact predatory. However, it seems as hell to be condemning someone for something they haven't done but could.
If you really don't want Ethereal remaining a moderator, look at their history of cheating, trolling, and abusing the site. That's a much better indicator of their unreliability than fearmongering.
Why would I bet $5 when the only thing I stand to win is a measly 20 tokens? 1. You did pretty much question it when you said I was either an idiot or Arcbell had my password 2. Unless you use the same password for every site, I wasn't referring to you 3. It's not a prerequisite, and using an unguessable password that you don't repeat across sites and is changed somewhat regularly is standard for all websites and is definitely necessary for more sensitive sites. Measures much more extreme are taken on those sites, including 2 step authentication, IP address registration via email, etc.
Also, the mod team has covered for Ethereal this entire time without letting her speak. Cody being told she was a pedophile but not taking it seriously makes the situation even worse- I assume they'll do background checks next time, but a lot of people were calling for her to be demodded.

I wonder if he's referring to his script that just takes a user password, adds 1337 to the beginning and end, does a basic hash, and then adds a null character to the start+end, and stores it. That would be great.
as someone who was around during the time, she has definitely admitted to that in the past. i attributed it to her not being her true self since she wasn't an open transgender person at the time, but if she's calling it a joke instead then that's worrisome.
arcbell is the real issue though
