Back to Complaints

Definition of HC.

deletedover 9 years

Anyone else notice the mod team just changed it to cover their tracks of bad moderation. Why didn't they tell us?...should everyone with a hate comment be unbanned because former/current mods didn't even know what a hate comment was? So unprofessional..yet so typical.

TO THE MODS:

Be productive and actually talk about something site relevant in the moderator chat, and come up with ACTUAL GUIDELINES behind a HC. The way things are being handled right now is honestly just ridiculous.

We have these mods just throwing violations left and right and its pretty crazy if you go back and look at some reports. Its like they are just trying to fly though the reports to get them done and see one or two words and say 'HATE COMMENT!' not looking at the context, not looking at really anything.

It seems most of you moderators are new or maybe not as involved, and I know its probably not a fun job..and a lot people may not like you. The RESPONSIBILITY of a moderator is to maintain a FAIR and enjoyable experience..im rambling..but it is not fair to any player to have these vague descriptions of what someone may think a HATE COMMENT is. This is just bad moderation, bad moderation drives away new players which hurts the site..obviously.

I'm just maybe trying to provoke some thought, sorry if you feel I'm being to harsh...but this is the complaint thread after all. I'm sure you moderators are good people, and have common sense. I'm sure you know mafia is a competitive game, and people may get frustrated from time to time. Ultimately its you guys who enforce the rules...this is simply a rant. In my opinion, it would just be nice to see some leniency in moderation differentiating actual HATE/DEMEANING SPEECH from SWEARING.

Feel free to state your opinion, but really the big thing I'm trying to get at is fair moderation..and I think the HC topic is one that is LONG past due to being addressed for everyones sake.

Well, what I meant was, it's not the responsibility of society to bend to the wish of the minority of people who feel "triggered" by many different things. If people go outside and become triggered, then that's it. It happens. Avoid it next time. We can't make a general trigger warning that everyone has to follow because there are various triggers for various people. I don't know if I am good at explaining what I mean, but yeah.

it's actually extremely easy to add warnings to things

Okay, well what would you like triggers on then?

"trigger warnings don't exist in real life"

One time I pulled into a parking lot, got out, saw a bunch of people milling around, so I went over to look. There was a bunny dying in the parking lot and they were just standing looking going awww so I snapped its neck and everyone looked horrified I surely should've air quoted trigger warning #mercy-killing.

that bunnies name? albert einstein.

the big ones should have TWs: sexual assault/abuse/r*pe, suicide and/or death, and explosions (for veterans and war survivors); but two of the three are already receiving ratings from MPAA so

i don't think i've ever met someone who knows their triggers and actively goes into a space where they expect to be triggered and thus want to use it as moral/social leverage over people

in fact, most people with triggers try on usually a daily basis to avoid their triggers

triggers are not always only words and there are images/videos that one might come across on the internet that one would not often see in real life

do i need to dig up the Tyler The Creator tweet?

i say you won't

looks like after 15 seconds of digging through the forums for the clean version you're right

trigger warnings were created to try to "avoid triggers," as you suggested. you don't have to avoid somebody's trigger in general, only around said person who is triggered by it. it's a really simple concept

Not around the Internet.

Anyway the notion of trigger warnings is basically "I'm so soft I need everyone else to come together to collectively cushion my reality and make it manageable for me" which isn't really how life works.

Okay but imagine being the owner of a closely moderatred website that sees relatively low levels of traffic. Logically speaking, telling the already dwindling community to simply "log off and stop coming to the website if you don't like it" seems pretty counterproductive.

Because the owner could not give 2 hairy rats ashes about trafic unless it effected revenue from token purchases...and token revenues have been constant.

ya just look at johnreid and his tokens
