but really, why not be okay with dying? does the idea of no longer existing scare you?

a really common claim by christians (or at least quite a few that i know) is that "if there's no god, then nothing will have mattered and life is totally meaningless. being an atheist is really depressing".

it's a totally weird mindset because by no means does something have to be eternal to be meaningful. so many things are totally temporal and based on our memories, but they mean the world to us. it isn't like life is dissolved of meaning if there -isn't- a god.

i think that for a lot of people, it's about giving their life a purpose.
