How did you learn to get better...

about 9 years

...at epicmafia? I'm still a somewhat of a new player, and I'm not that good at the game. How did you learn to get better?

nah it's not really like that, they'll eventually play orange if they want to and keep learning lol. this isn't so legit it's like a lot of luck.

I doubt anything's gonna happen because nobody good enough to teach higher level mentoring really cares about it anymore but good luck, for real

If you can get good players to mentor advanced level stuff then great job because that's something that I don't even think we can do in our dreams at this point

lol making Orly a mentor...

I think there is a substantial demographic of dedicated and interested red heart players who never move on because they're told they shouldn't bother

I'm pretty sure I could get Abe, Vash, and Boatman to do it. IDK about the rest

Mentoring is dumb. you learn thru experience.

I'd rather be mentored by Bacde than the current mentors

Did anyone notice that players were generally better before the program even existed

If there was no program it'd be the same as it is now if not only microscopically worse

Nah. Mentoring literally doesn't work because this isn't a text-book game where every games will be the same. Every games will be different and no one can teach you how to play for every specific moments - only experience can do that. There's only so much someone can tell you.

Pretty sure that's the case with like.. Everything that is taught in the real world.

Yet teachers, instructors and mentors still exist lol

I dunno, maybe people aren't interested in mentoring because it's currently a joke, not because they aren't interested in doing it

No, I'm pretty sure it's either the latter or both

mentoring could work if it was only to get new players onto their feet with basic techniques and what-to-dos and what-not-to-dos, but I do see your point.

That's fair enough but what-to¬-to-dos and have a lot of factors behind them (setups, current situation in the game, etc..). There's only so much a mentor can tell you to help you in these situation and honestly there aren't a lot of "basic" things to know about this game other than acronyms / when-to¬-to-CC and probably other simple things that I'm forgetting which anyone could learn without a mentor if they just played more and were willing to learn on their own (which is more fun anyways).

Do you know how many times I've played a red heart game and been asked where they can learn to get better, or if the mentor program is still active and worth investing in? If I hadn't seen interest, I wouldn't have posted anything about it in this thread except for telling Giga he f'd it up

Maybe people who don't play the game shouldn't make assumptions about it

only if you "mentor" as it is now, it shouldn't be done that way. people who actually want to get better can easily by asking for an analysis of a hand-picked game they lost

Your list:

Anthony and Connor: ok
Abe and Matthew: too busy with school to bother
Vash and Gira: probably wouldn't take it seriously / wouldn't care for it
The rest: eh I wouldn't be too crazy about being mentored by them but they're good I suppose

If you suffocate the competitive game by fostering and catering to fancy pants and sandbox players and refuse to invest even a blip of effort into revitalizing interest, of course no one will care.

It would work and people do care, just not the mods.
