The deer population is largely out of control due to overzealous eradication of predatory species by farmers in lieu of actually building decent barriers(like heavy-duty fences, partially buried of course to prevent digging) since obviously shooting things and catching them in lethal traps was way more fun than maintaining ecological balance.

Humans are shockingly good at ignoring consequences though.
