Im not going to prom because its so expensive and I heard it's really boring in my city

good choice put that money into an IRA instead.

For two people, it's $150 for tickets alone. It doesn't include the dress/tux, food, after prom, and anything else after the after prom.

Total, it would come around $500-$700 dollars

Yeah I paid for mine and my girlfriend at the time's ticket and rented my tux, and I think it came out to be around $400 out of my own pocket because I was like you and felt bad asking my parents to pay for it since I could afford it. Food was included in the prom ticket itself, and for "after prom" we just had a small house party with friends afterward. It was a blast and I don't regret spending the money at all, but it might be a little different if you're not dating anyone or anything like that. Shrug.

you're massively highballing prom costs, btw. it probably won't cost you more than 350 total

Prom tickets are $75 a piece, and the girl I would take, I won't let her pay for her ticket, so it will be $150

After prom tickets (hosted at my high school) are an additional $75, but I heard the after prom was more fun than the actual prom

i like that he said dress/tux tho

rutab my man we support you if you wanna wear a dress to prom

I was still talking about 2 people ~_~

Also it's really messed up I heard that there is/was this person who was told "where a dress or don't come" by his school

He was a trans male who wasn't allowed to wear a tux to the prom so they told him wear a dress or get out

yeah, well, that's the south for you

Idk, we'll see

I didn't even know an adult prom was a thing

yeah it turns out there are a bunch of adults that are desperate to either re-live high school or actually have a date to a prom and it's super weird but you hear about them happening every so often anyway

jesus christ why is it so expensive

My school has like no money and thinks we have lots of money???

Even homecoming tickets were $50 a piece

or you can always go as a date to someone else's prom, but it wouldn't be the same as going to your own.

you said "your city" so is it not organized through your school ?
over 9 years
sometimes proms are at cool places. my prom was at an aquarium and it blew bc they couldn't have the music too loud (didn't think too far ahead, didja high school?)
over 9 years
alternatively, make friends with high school seniors when you're in college and go with them. people will think you're weird but it's OK

i wouldn't expect my kid to pay $700 for a school event. at least bargain with them and make them split half of it. that's what i and a lot of people i knew did
deletedover 9 years
you only get 1 prom ever, dude

i mean, unless you're one of those creepy people that goes to an adult prom

that's a lot when you're in high school. but if you like your friends you'll probably have a good time.

i lived an hour away from disneyland from most of my life and people who consistently went to it were insufferable and also privileged beyond understanding

i only used to go a lot bc we had annual passes and its fun to do on the weekends

I mean, I went, and it was fun, but it wasn't worth it imo, but it's better to go and feel meh about it than not go and wonder what you missed out on

you're gonna regret not going later in life, you should go just so you don't lament about it when you're a gross old person
