And then insist that they don't see it as green because they're not tetrachordons and see things like white and gold when they should be seeing black and blue?
oh cool okay, I wasn't sure if your feeling of guilt stemmed from the widespread belief that church = mandatory to be viewed as a good person/practitioner, etc
I feel guilty about not going to church, so doing this makes me feel a bit better.
one of the things that i've really learned from my history of world religions class is that church may be a "universal" sacred space for christians/catholics, but it doesn't have to be everyone's sacred space. you can still be a practicing catholic and not go to church. if you follow the religious teachings or code or whatever it is that catholics are adherent to, you're doing perfectly fine.
true story. you can give up unhealthy habits, but if it takes lent for you to do it, you'll surely go back to it unless you want to make it a permanent change, then you don't need lent for it to happen.
I disagree. Lent definitely helps kickstart certain habits. It takes ~66 for the brain to fully change its habits, so 40 days of Lent is a pretty good chunk of the habit change.
To me, just being able to prove to myself I can go without doing certain things for extended periods of time is motivating. I've pretty much kicked all of my other bad habits from when I was younger.
I do agree that you don't necessarily need Lent to make it happen, but it's a good reason to.

what I've realized from giving up bread and alcohol is that the quality of my life doesn't improve nor am i any healthier as a result. It's really just an inconvenience.
eh if it wasn't difficult it wouldn't be worth it. i used to give up soda or TV every year when i was younger, but I pretty much have stopped with both of those altogether.
get addicted to heroin so you can give heroin up for lent, thats real dedication
