Hello. A select bit of mods have been deliberating for a while on how to improve the forum experience, and we've discussed the idea of implementing Forum Rules. This is something that we want to include the community in, so your feedback/opinions are worthwhile.
Here's a rough draft for what we have in mind.
Every subforum that isnt OT is going to be moderated more heavily for off-topic posts, and moderators will reserve the right to delete your post. Don't ruin threads with your banter, go to OT for that.
We're going to try and be harder about flaming/harassment on the forums. We want to try and make the place more friendly and while it might be a bit of a change we're asking that you be patient with us and what we have in mind is merely things to be discussed.
Negative and constructive criticism is fine. We're not going to silence your opinion for disagreeing or being abrasive, just never make it personal. That's all we ask. We understand that mafia is a competitive game at it's nature and that things are bound to get heated, but that doesn't mean we have to let things get out of control.
Trolling will be treated as the same as trolling in-game. A user has a right to report you if he believes that you are trolling them or their thread. Punishments will be handed out accordingly after we readjust what the repercussions will be for forum trolling.
OT will be moderated lightly, and GD will be at the discretion of the person making the topic. All rules are going to be in effect for all other subforums.
All mods reserve to delete your posts if they are off-topic.

Lucid's inactivity is a blessing that most users do not even realize they are actively taking advantage of.
Please understand this. Almost no one cares about the forums--except the same people who start the drama and keep it going. Those are the only people who even use these forums. They like it. Let them have it. Like Rutab's thread earlier today that was basically a "omg the forums are horrible so mafia's going to die!" No. That's exactly why it's alive. Go to the games lobby forums etc. No one touches it. The only reason people use it is really /to start drama/ about site complaints, bugs, moderators, or setups. I mean sure, people ask questions--but no newbie goes "oh I'll post it in the forums!" They go "oh I'll join a game and see if anyone knows." Trust me, they get the answer faster that way anyways. I didn't touch the forums til a year after I joined. Nor did I need to. People in games helped me enough.
The rule on trolling...c'mon now. No. I don't even see how you would implement it because it'd be 100% feeling based. If you implement this, your "waaa my feelings are hurt!" reports are going to go up ten fold and you're going to have a /lot/ of trouble handling these in an unbiased way. And people will leave.

"change deleted post mechanics so that they are completely hidden from public but still viewable to mods and have the ability to be un-deleted" is a pretty sound idea to present to lucid imho

I can see what you're saying. It's really hard to tackle this issue honestly and I (or the mods) wanted to seem like we knew the solutions, which is why we're asking for feedback in the first place. I'm trying to keep a personal note reminder in my head about the things being said in this topic. I do appreciate it.
Koofers looks like a really cool community of college students with the common goal of studying. Maybe I will check it out, and if I do I'll be nice to everyone there because it's not a competitive psychology game.

well yeah that's what i'm saying. don't do what's in the OP unless you get lucid's help
Look at this crazy long list of places people can go if they're looking for e-friends. Maybe a competitive psychology game is not the place to preach kindness?

roshiez your idea sucks because we don't want legit threads getting moved, sorry

i mean honestly if we (or the admin or other moderators) could see which posts got deleted (possibly with the option to un-delete like other forums) this would not be an issue AT ALL
i already expressed my concerns with the ideas in the OP being implemented with what we have mechanically. the only way this can work is if other moderators can view deleted (which would be now "hidden" i guess, as in totally hidden from non-mods) and can be un-deleted by mods
I agree with this, but it'd require lucid help.

Rutab thinks the forums are mean now. Lucky he missed bad girlz days

you can make the forums more inviting without cranking down on off-topic posts
but then they'll be scared off by all the rude people on the forums

@Retti If a thread gets derailed it's usually because the conversation made from the OP has died at that point, if its something serious I'm sure it'll get back on topic. I think if it's a decently new thread and immediately gets off topic that it is unfair but if it's a thread where everythings been established and there's nothing else to talk about then I see no reason to /not/ move it. And as for 4 I think it's super easy to confuse trolling for just making a few jokes, a lot of people on em are way too sensitive and just pointing out a few things wrong with their post + a joke or two would end up being Trolling. Also people who post in groups and majorly troll a topic would get forum banned in ~3 days more or less, for the most part the same people who troll threads are also super helpful in other threads.
