Hello. A select bit of mods have been deliberating for a while on how to improve the forum experience, and we've discussed the idea of implementing Forum Rules. This is something that we want to include the community in, so your feedback/opinions are worthwhile.
Here's a rough draft for what we have in mind.
Every subforum that isnt OT is going to be moderated more heavily for off-topic posts, and moderators will reserve the right to delete your post. Don't ruin threads with your banter, go to OT for that.
We're going to try and be harder about flaming/harassment on the forums. We want to try and make the place more friendly and while it might be a bit of a change we're asking that you be patient with us and what we have in mind is merely things to be discussed.
Negative and constructive criticism is fine. We're not going to silence your opinion for disagreeing or being abrasive, just never make it personal. That's all we ask. We understand that mafia is a competitive game at it's nature and that things are bound to get heated, but that doesn't mean we have to let things get out of control.
Trolling will be treated as the same as trolling in-game. A user has a right to report you if he believes that you are trolling them or their thread. Punishments will be handed out accordingly after we readjust what the repercussions will be for forum trolling.
OT will be moderated lightly, and GD will be at the discretion of the person making the topic. All rules are going to be in effect for all other subforums.
All mods reserve to delete your posts if they are off-topic.

Actually, you're wrong. We're not forcing anything and we're merely using this thread to present our ideas.
i think the funny part is that regardless of what the community's reaction was, if the mod team could justify it within themselves despite the more than enough room to create controversy, they would go forth with their plan regardless of how many users opposed them
this thread is not a legitimate attempt at community discussion, moreso "please pat us on the back a few days before we make the rules official" with a smaller sidegoal of "well even though the chance of us changing our minds is 0 maybe you can narrow one specific point that doesn't change the overall plan"

1. What if the user in the OP doesn't want his topic to be moved into OT? Are we going to shut down discussion just because of one person?
4. What's wrong with it?

smogon forums are good for this. they are tight on topics and discussions in their serious forums but all posts can be undeleted and viewed by mods
Because EpicMafia is serious business. FunNotAllowed™

1. You can just move threads to OT rather than deleting posts, if it's just one post then deleting it should be fine. However, if an entire conversation comes up and its somewhat relevant to OP then it shouldn't be deleted, it should just be either moved or whoever is making the conversation should be told to make a new thread for it. Depends on how bad it is. I can easily see mods abusing the delete button and saying it was OT when really it was something insulting/offensive to them or something of that nature.
2. People don't like each other and that's pretty normal, the "avoid each other" thing and use of forum blocking someone should be fine, if it continues I'm sure its off the forums too so idk why it matters.
3. ok
4. No
5. ok

i already expressed my concerns with the ideas in the OP being implemented with what we have mechanically. the only way this can work is if other moderators can view deleted (which would be now "hidden" i guess, as in totally hidden from non-mods) and can be un-deleted by mods

We can work on that.

Ok. Most people who are still here after a few years. Some who no longer play games much. Are only here because of the forums

nobody wanted this.

if your worry about the rules is the possibility of abuse of the rules you've got a bigger problem at hand
since the admin apparently doesnt like demodding people for misconduct (would be nice to hear from our lovely admin occasionally), the only incentive for mods to follow the "guidelines" (not even rules?) is blowback from the community, as far as i can tell.
if the guidelines are public, any trouble makers will just try to be as close to the line as possible without crossing it. if you're going to do this, at least do it right

I think it's smart to have most guidelines mods follow to be public so users know what to do and what not to do
