I think the studio cant be entirely blamed for the lack of buildup since they had quite clearly budget restraints and you could tell how fastpaced the story went after the filler episode with random clips that it was somewhat rushed to manage to get in all of the content they wanted, which is pretty sad.
But going around saying "bruh they couldnt have done better its a kid show" its pretty damn silly, there are plenty of ways to make bonding scenes like more dialogue or them spending time alone actually doing things.
why are you turning this into a gay thing. even if asami was male, there wasn't enough buildup to make their relationship believable. they should have stayed friends

I feel like the writers of that show is trying to excuse their subpar writing of that ending with "hetero people totally dont understand, just ignore them and their hetero glasses" which is just very silly
