Oh I see, you're looking at the state Mexico, not the country. I think 16 is fine for consent, and I see the benefit of a slightly younger one (14-15 say, like a lot of European countries have) in that those laws protect teenagers who fool around with their boy/girlfriends from being prosecuted stupidly. If anyone says that doesn't happen, there was a girl in New Jersey who was registered as a sex offender at 16 for sharing nudes of herself.
Sex is a pain to legislate for, because ages aren't a permanent thing (an 18 year old turns 19, is it now creepy for him or her to be with their 17 year old partner?) and you need to be able to protect minors while also respecting that some people might start dating young and then hit a period where one is an adult and the other isn't and the law gets in the way.

So we both understand that the age of consent ranges from place to place and get shockingly low in some. The question becomes what people deem as "too young". Where should we cross the line exactly?
Mexico differs by state, with some ending the restrictions at 16, and others at 18. I don't know where you got 15 from? the USA has several states where the age of consent is 16 or 17, so again, I don't know what "our" standards are that you're talking about. If it's 'western' standards, it's still wrong, because half of Europe has it set at 14.
