Pawnbroker
  • Visits one person every night.
  • That person receives a list of available items during the night (guns, vests, knives, snowballs, crystal balls, keys, or bread) and selects one.
  • That person will receive the item of their choice and the item is removed from the list for the rest of the game.
  • The Pawnbroker is notified of what item they chose.
  • There is a 50% chance that the item is fake, but neither are notified if it is.
  • Sided with the village.

I believe that giving away items that the receiver can choose is simply way too good, so I made it so there's a chance of being fake to somewhat balance it out. Though it is inevitable that some items are just way better than others.

However, a solution that I can think of that can fix this problem is that each item are limited. There is only 1 available stock of each item, so once one is bought, the next buyer can't buy it again. It's unlikely the game lasts for 7 nights anyway.

I absolutely adore your suggestion for how the items are distributed. I believe Party Host would be more appropriate in this case since the buyer can still perform their night actions and attend other meetings normally. I'm not 100% if the seller and buyer should have a meeting, but it's worth considering.

These suggestions are absolutely flavorful and they work perfectly well for the role. Thanks you.

The current name "Pawnbroker" was suggested by gameshowmaster, which I liked better than my initial name "Shady Merchant".
I needed an element to the name that could justify why there was a 50% chance of it being fake. "Shady" was for that, but it sounded too scummy for a village role.
Although simply naming it "Merchant" may possibly be the best name for it, for it is simple.

Personally I don't like the idea of town roles giving out fake items (like trickster) but this seems a whole lot better than trickster because people can actually choose.

It's interesting because normally people would want a gun/knife but (assuming lucid fixes the fake knife bug) using a fake version of one of those has a significant risk factor. The other four would be much more popular alternatives. However, if lucid doesn't fix the knife bug people would just choose the knife.

Perhaps instead of making it like gambler, it could be like jailer/chef or party host instead. The action to choose who to visit would happen on the previous day (either as a day action or an action after the vote). Gambler mechanics aren't really needed in this situation because the pawnbroker won't be doing any action themself. Choosing who to visit on the previous day would thus minimize vegging.

The visited person receives a prompt similar to Gambler, except instead of RPS, it's the list of items. Likely accompanied with the system message of:

"The pawnbroker has welcomed (name) to their pawn shop! Feel free to get whatever you want!"

and

[Pawn Shop
