In 1998, a Platypus that escaped it's zoo enclosure in Minnesota was shot dead by a gas station owner mistaking it for a raccoon. Uproar across the state came out as Gillian the Platypus did not get justice. After a long legal battle, the gas station owner had to pay the price. In honor of it, in 1999 Minnesota produced 80 coins with Gillian's body on it, so he may swim forever as a currency.
