racial slurs (hey lucid)

to provide some background on this, i've been gone for a couple months so i'm not sure what changes were put in place in my absence and why, but one rule that struck me as having been newly implemented is the racial slurs one. let's look at this for a minute.

"Use of slurs that are based on race and/or ethnicity. We will show absolutely no tolerance towards racist and xenophobic ideals."

so, the rule itself shows there'll be zero tolerance towards racist ideals. that's nice and i fw that, but... the rule itself is totally tone deaf towards people who actually come from these communities and use those words commonly in their every day vernacular in that it doesn't actually leave room for context or origin. as far as i understand it, nobody on the mod team is black, nor is lucid, yet these are the people who are in charge of doling out violations to people who actually ARE black and are using words that have a nuanced history of reclamation behind them. simply put: if i call someone a dumbass ni­gga in a game (presumably a white someone), am i racially attacking them? no. i'm calling them a dumbass ni­gga because they are one and they probably did something in-game to deserve it.

I used to use a slur every single sentence since it was all I did online. I was very offensive and I really didn’t understand the words I was saying. Words such as ‘ret*rd’, ‘tr*nny’, or calling people monkeys. I said these because I was falling what other people did that I saw online. Until I was actually reprimanded by the moderation team on EM, I became more aware and more read on the issue of social justice and I even consider myself a ‘Social Justice Warrior’. I overcame the need to say such mean words all because I became more aware. My presence although still overbearing has become much nicer if though I am not nice. Why can’t you do the same or is it because you want to reclaim a word just so you can perpetuate what your ancestors sought to destroy?


i'm gonna keep it real with you chief, i don't care about your personal history on the internet or the enlightenment you think you've achieved so writing me this big paragraph in an attempt to foster understanding isn't going to work because 1. you started off on the wrong foot in this thread and 2. you're bringing in things that would constitute hateful comments in a thread specifically about racial slurs. so.

that said, you are delusional and can't be reasoned with if you think the process of slur reclamation in any way perpetuates what ~my ancestors~ (crazy how you know so much about them?) were opposed to. please, spare me the "intellectual" drivel or at least, make it make sense before you try to spout off in a thread on a topic that, again, you know nothing about.

skin color exists and it is a fact that people face oppression and discrimination based on it. Refusing to acknowledge that there is a difference in the life experiences of people of different skin colors does not get you one over on teh sjwzs.

to be completely fair, he was justified in his responses and didn't say anything inherently racist or otherwise negative/detrimental. i'd like to point that out because i don't think arguing amongst ourselves is productive when there are bigger things at hand.
