racial slurs (hey lucid)

deletedover 5 years

to provide some background on this, i've been gone for a couple months so i'm not sure what changes were put in place in my absence and why, but one rule that struck me as having been newly implemented is the racial slurs one. let's look at this for a minute.

"Use of slurs that are based on race and/or ethnicity. We will show absolutely no tolerance towards racist and xenophobic ideals."

so, the rule itself shows there'll be zero tolerance towards racist ideals. that's nice and i fw that, but... the rule itself is totally tone deaf towards people who actually come from these communities and use those words commonly in their every day vernacular in that it doesn't actually leave room for context or origin. as far as i understand it, nobody on the mod team is black, nor is lucid, yet these are the people who are in charge of doling out violations to people who actually ARE black and are using words that have a nuanced history of reclamation behind them. simply put: if i call someone a dumbass nigga in a game (presumably a white someone), am i racially attacking them? no. i'm calling them a dumbass nigga because they are one and they probably did something in-game to deserve it.

the rule is a joke

Want to read it rather than assuming what it says?

i read it

That was quick. Do you know why now?

yeah, because my skin color is a barrier that prevents the meaning of a word from changing over time.

sad

yeah. my entire family must be shamed for something that we never partook in. we cannot adapt to the modern society WE CREATED and we can't ever fit in. sad

you trying to tell me that doesn't mean exactly what i said?

it is basically saying that my skin alone is creating the difference between it being modern slang and being offensive.

you only think i didn't read it because i am not following the same train of thought as you. Fancy words fancy words, it means my skin makes the words automatically different.

also i love how you are so quick to say that faking sexual assault was some terrible thing when i am some online stranger and not everything on the internet is true, and there are people who lie on the internet about who they are.

also, me saying that it never really happened is good. means one less person was actually sexually assaulted.

I don't think you have the mental capacity to "go full Eris"

i had the mental capacity to cheat for four months without mods noticing, while also pretending to be 3 different people.

SteelixMega lied about being sexually assaulted and faked his own death on EpicMafia so I don't know why you guys think arguing with him is going to make him stop spewing dumb things

i did one on an alternate account that was trying not to be me so i could hide from the mods. the other one i didn't do.

Hi heard you were lying about me can you fück off? I’m not talking to you so leave me out of this. I don’t call non-LGBT people the F-slur so off bye. I say it about myself.

I said you call all of your friends that, and your friends call you that. But whenever someone who isn't your friend says it, it is supposedly homophobic.

false. my friends do not use that slur with me if they are not also LGBTQIA+. i also don’t use it with anyone that has not explicitly said i can. shut up shut up shut up go fake your death again.

Did you even read the abstract?

what abstract is there? Nubber historically meant "slave", and that word has been reclaimed by black people to mean "friend", and now white people are not allowed to say it because it "reminds them of some distant past".

The meaning of the word is automatically different because two people of different ethnic backgrounds say it?

Exact same argument as the "gay-f". If f-_ refers to someone who is gay, why is it offensive if a non-gay person says that to someone who is gay? It is recognizing them as a gay person. But just because they are non-gay, the meaning has changed?

If I ever wanted to say the n-word to a black person, I would mean it in the modern context (of meaning friend/homie). I am not saying I hate black people if I use that word. I am not calling for any deaths of black people. I am using it in the exact same meaning as the way the blacks use the word. But, because I have white European ancestry, it makes it automatically hateful.

Also to the people who get offended by the white people saying the n-word, isn't it kinda racist to segregate words by race? Why can't a white person call you what all of your non-white friends call you?

I don't believe in cultural appropriation. I think that is a crappy way to show contempt to people. There shouldn't be anything restricted to cultures. Fk, if I wanna wear a sombrero, let me wear a sombrero without it being offensive to every Mexican ever.

From the rules of "cultural appropriation", fair-skinned people getting sunburned would count as that.

What I just linked doesn't even talk about that though

I am saying if I can't say it because it is cultural appropriation (according to the article you linked), there are several other things that I would not be able to do in a society where I can express myself freely and mind my own business.

I understand that white people enslaved people of African descent. We all know this, but society is saying that white people are no longer allowed to say what the white people called them back then. Now for this, I would not be allowed to say it in public because I share the same skin color as those who did that 150 years ago.

My family never owned slaves, and they weren't even in America that long ago, but no, just because I share the same skin color as the people who did that, and I say that word, it is deemed "racist to blacks" even though black people sling it around to their friends all the time, with the meaning nowadays being "friend" or "homie".
