Apply for Slur Whitelist

over 6 years

After getting confirmation from admin, I was put in charge of enabling a slur whitelist. What is it, you may ask:

Reporting users who use homophobic slurs when they are homosexual seems very counter-intuitive, just like reporting users who use racial slurs when they are themselves a racial person.

In order to apply just write in the comments your sexuality, race, age and disabilities, and I'll quickly sort it up and add you to the slur whitelist.

If a straight man is offended by being called a fàg because he was called that in High School he can literally eat my entire àsshole for all I care.

People outside of communities can stop virtue signaling their offense for the people within them. It’s a tired and gross practice to be offended for others who are not. It serves the purpose of trying to be holier than thou and is an ugly way to defend your point.

A lot of people from the black / LGBT communities are no longer looking for equal rights - but in fact want more rights. They want the ability to say horrendous words like these and be able to get away with it. However, the other members of these groups condemn these people for the most part as they see them for what they are - egotists.

What more will heterosexual white woman have to say about what POC and LGBT people can and can’t say or feel? Just wait and see!

It isn't even just the people from these groups who can be offended by these slurs. Family members and close friends can also be offended (and not because they're being "offended on their behalf" as Slorp will try to argue) but because they may have had to deal with the victims during depression or all sorts.

Also, some straight people that have been abused and accused of being gay / abused with these words (as I mentioned before) can find them offensive too.

Hence, discretion. The idea that you are giving that it’s all bad because not all agree goes both ways. Discretion. That’s it. Sorry dude. Not black or white. Get over it.

The black and LGBT communities aren't hive minds. Just because a handful of people have decided to "reclaim" words doesn't mean everyone has. As I have mentioned before, I know black people who don't like other black people using the "N" word and I know a lot of gay people who take offence to homophobic slurs no matter if they are "reclaimed" or not.

I can call myself a fàg all I want because reclaiming it makes it funny not heartbreaking when the heterosexual frat boys Chad and Jason inevitably slur it at me out the window of their Audi while I walk out of the gay club half blacked out at 2 AM. off Granny.

Don't make me laugh - just because you are from the group that the slur originates from doesn't mean that you have a free pass to use it.

I know many black people who hate the "N" word and many gays/lesbians who hate the "F" and "D" words respectively. And I don't know about you but I don't see many disabled people haphazardly throwing the "R" slur around.

The so-called "reclaiming" is just to give certain members of these groups ego boosts and power trips - while the words themselves are hurting others from their own groups.

Judge everyone together, don't be so stupid.

also, you're correct. a majority of disabled people will never use the r word. i know i don't and i'm disabled. i could never use it knowing the hurt i feel when seeing someone use it against another person. i wouldn't want to pass that hurt or belittlement onto someone else. but other slurs have since become reclaimed BECAUSE it has been used against them for so long. language evolves, and it has for people of color to where using the n slur around each other is acceptable. we are not quite there with homophobic slurs though, and certainly not with ableist slurs. the best thing we can do is gauge where language is regarding minorities in the moment and react accordingly. the best thing we can do for minorities is bring them a sense of control over the words that have been used against them for so long.

Don't make me laugh. If "reclaiming" the slurs empowers them then they can use it in their own time, in their own heads, or with people that they know also wont be affected by the words. But to blast them over a site like this and say "Hey I'm gay it is allowed" is disgusting and wrong and they should be punished just like anyone else.

this is a troll thread but granny is not a brainy specimen so ...its up 2 the folk that a specific slur affects to decide whether they find it empowering or not when they use it!!!! reclaiming slurs benefits minorities as it allows them 2 take away the power from certain words when it is negatively used against them :^)

I find it cute how you pretend that it is only the people from the certain groups who are affected by the words - it is adorable that you completely ignore all the straight people who were bullied all throughout their childhoods and abused with words like the "F" and "D" words just because others thought they were gay.

I myself have been harassed on this site with transphobic slurs, I may not be transgender but I have been targeted and hurt by the slurs.

I don't care what this list says but if I am ever a target of any of these words (bar the "N" word as I've never been called it for obvious reasons) I will waste no time in reporting the offenders no matter of their sexual orientation of physical/mental abilities.

You know why, equality.

If the person who called you that can apply that slur to himself and relate to it, you have no right in reporting them, it's much more offensive for them than it is for you.

Absolute RUBBISH.
