Specifically, the windows error log. Best way to find the error is to force it to happen, mark down the time it did, then after a restart look at the logs during that timeframe.

we havent got a keyboard workin yet but we did get the ps2 mouse working

anyway windows now says

‘No device drivers were found’ when installing Windows 7

so im redownloading the iso just in case thats the issue

as long as you can get that off WITHOUT BENDING THE PINS, there's likely no permanent damage though.
be very careful w/ the pins.

Also it really shouldn't matter how you apply that paste if you don't overclock. it doesn't need to cover the entire heat spreader at all. just putting minimum amount in the center and let it spread under the pressure of the cooler should work fine.
