A spy (a double agent) who establishes cover long before beginning espionage
Episode 10 of 10
Current Location: Frankfurt, Germany; Population: 730,000
Known to some as the "Gateway to Europe", and to others as "Mainhattan", Frankfurt is one of the global hubs of Germany. Already, more than half of its inhabitants have non-German backgrounds and more than 100 different languages are spoken on a daily basis. It is the financial capital of the world--appropriate considering that a whopping $48 can be won in this city, the final destination of our trip.
Final Pot: $73

Gameplay
The ultimate spy game is back!
Players will compete on an ORG journey across Europe, testing their brains, teamwork, and strategy.
Their goal? To successfully complete a series of mind-twisting challenges, and earn money for a cash jackpot that could reach up to $250.
But one of these "players" isn't really a player at all. They're a double agent, working against the other eleven. Their goal? To sabotage their missions, and to ensure that we give away as little of that $250 as possible.
The winner will be the player who can answer this question: Who is the Mole?

Audience Game
This season, we will be doing an audience game! Each time the players take the quiz, you at home will also get a chance to guess who you think is the Mole. Each time you are correct, you will be entered into a drawing for $15 at the end of the season!
The final painting is somewhat more recent than the rest. It is the logo for the Mole.
This image will function as the timer for the game. The game is over as soon as one team finishes painting the Mole logo. The first team to finish painting the Mole logo will win exemptions.
Each team splits into their own rooms and goes to work.
After 46 minutes, a timer sounds! Somebody has completed the Mole logo, and the game is over.
The artistic team (Videl, Viixkey, and Sonia) finished the $1 painting quickly, and put most of their efforts on the Mole logo:
Some of the players are looking for a better outcome in the next challenge. They are asked to separate themselves into three teams of three: an artistic team, a patient team, and a selfish team.
They can win over $20 in this challenge. But that's not all--if their team does well, they can also win exemptions. They are shown four classic paintings, converted into pixel art. Each team also gets a link to a Google Sheet, with canvases with square cells. They will have to paint each cell so that it matches the pixel art.
For $1, the first painting is a work of abstraction by the great Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. A pioneer of Neo-Plasticism, Mondrian devised a way to depict form while avoiding any reference to the real world. The painting relies completely on use of primary color and direction. I present to you, “Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow!”
For $2, the second painting is a self-portrait of the Belgian surrealist painter René Margritte. The painting features Margritte in a bowler hat, but with his face obscured by a green apple. As Margritte described it, “You have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It's something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.” An apt analogy for our game, no? I present to you, “The Son of Man!”
For $4, the third painting should need no introduction. It’s perhaps the most well-known painting in the world, the masterwork of Leonardo Da Vinci. Art critics have been attempting to explain the mystery behind her smile for centuries. Without further ado, I give to you, the Mona Lisa!
Both Videl and VWXYZ bid on the black envelope--and so it is not awarded. What was in it?
Black: Neutralized for next challenge, but +$5 for pot, or can neutralize another player next challenge and set fire to their winnings (that player’s envelopes will be discarded and anything inside them will be void).
And in the other unclaimed envelopes? Orange ($75): $1 for the pot Yellow ($75): Neutralizer Blue ($50): $2 for the pot or +1 on the quiz
Finally, the aqua envelope, won by Bryce, is revealed. He has an envelope swap--he can steal the contents of one other envelope. He chooses to steal the red envelope from Sonia. He discovers it contains a +2.
Of a possible $11 that could have been one in this challenge, they ended up LOSING $1. The pot now stands at $25.
Each player has $100 to spend on any envelopes they wish.
In the $25 category we have Beige, Magenta, Aqua, and Purple envelopes. In the $50 category we have Grey, White, and Blue envelopes. In the $75 category we have Brown, Green, Yellow, and Orange envelopes. And in the $100 category we have Pink, and Red envelopes.
The 14th envelope is Black, and will go to the player with the most bidding money leftover--unless two people tie for it, it will not be awarded.
The catch? If two or more players bid on the same envelope, the winner will be decided by random.org... and the loser's money will NOT be refunded!
Once the bids are in, time to see who won which envelope, and to reveal the envelope's contents:
$25 Beige (Bryce): $1 for the pot Magenta (FireDragonPrince): -$1 from the pot
$50 Grey (jingahegami): Either $2 for the pot or +1 on the quiz. Jinga chose the +1. Brown (qrstuv): -$1 from the pot White (Viixkey): Nothing Purple (Viixkey): -1 on the quiz
$75 Green (FDP): Neutralized from winning an exemption next challenge
$100 Pink (Coin): -1 on the quiz Red (xSoniaNeverMindx): +2 on the quiz.
If you wish to play the audience game, send JohnMiller an EM private message (on EM, not on Skype!) saying who you think the Mole is out of the following players:
Bryce1997 COINTOSSUSER420 FireDragonPrince jingahegami qrstuv rctnk99 Videl Viixkey VWXYZ xSoniaNeverMindx
Each time the quiz is opened for the contestants, you will get the opportunity to make one entry.
At the end of the season, each correct prediction will be entered into a drawing for a $15 prize.
Entries for this episode must be received by 8:00 PM EST on Thursday, February 8. Good luck!
But that's not all that has been won. With that last play of the cards, two exemptions have also been awarded.
[2/7/2018 2:13:58 PM] John Miller: The deck that you've been playing with has not been a random deck. It has been stacked. Remember the player that considers themselves a big deal? For the house, I played the role of the dealer. I was using an actual deck of cards. But for the four of you, your cards were being assigned to you by Coin.
Coin was told that he could win two exemptions if he could do two things: 1. Give one player a “winning streak”, and make win until they have at least 30 chips in front of them. 2. Eliminate the other three players by making them lose all their chips.
If he could do this, both him and the last player standing would win exemptions. There was a catch: Each time any of the active players says the word “rigged”, “fixed”, “cheat”, or any variations of those words, $2 would be taken from the pot. After the third time, Coin would no longer be able to win the exemptions and I would have taken over as dealer.
[2/7/2018 2:19:02 PM] COINTOSSUSER420: I'm sorry Jake ;c [2/7/2018 2:19:13 PM] VWXYZ: didn’t i say those [2/7/2018 2:19:15 PM] VWXYZ: LOL [2/7/2018 2:19:22 PM] VWXYZ: im surprised i ddint [2/7/2018 2:19:31 PM] VWXYZ: that sounds like my vocabulary gambling [2/7/2018 2:19:48 PM] COINTOSSUSER420: I'm shocked you actually did not [2/7/2018 2:20:00 PM] FireDragonPrince: once [2/7/2018 2:20:13 PM] VWXYZ: qrs is the mole [2/7/2018 2:20:15 PM] VWXYZ: come on [2/7/2018 2:20:22 PM] VWXYZ: rigged
During the game, qrstuv said "smh rigged!" once. $2 will be taken from the pot. Had it been said two other times, the exemptions would have been lost.
After adding the $6 from One by One, and the $8 from this challenge, the pot would have stood at $28. After the fine, the pot now stands at $26.
The four who did not participate in One by One (qrstuv, FireDragonPrince, VWXYZ, and Videl) participate in the next challenge. They'll get a chance to add money to the pot as well.
They are tasked with playing blackjack in the chat. Each player begins with 10 chips. If, as a group, they can turn thir 40 chips into 80 chips within an hour, they gain $8 for the pot.
Summary:
VWXYZ plays the first few hands safe, then suddenly goes all in on one hand.
VWXYZ not gonna get it by playing 1 hand every 5 mins don't have enough time
He is dealt an 8 and a 4. He hits. King. VWXYZ has bust and is out of the game.
After several more hands, FDP has gone on a clear winning streak. With 15 minutes left of play, Videl only has 8 chips and qtstuv 5, while FDP has 23 chips.
Videl goes all-in with 8 chips, and stands on a King and an 8.
The house is dealt a 10, and 2. Looking good---until they turn a 7. House has 19, and Videl is out of the game.
With the clock ticking and only 8 minutes left, FDP has 42 chips and qrstuv 4. Both go all in on one last hand, trying to reach their goal of 80 chips!
FDP: K 2 qrstuv: 7 6
House: 7
FDP hits, and is dealt..... a 9! That's 21!
qrstuv also hits... and draws a Queen. On the last hand of the game, he busts.
As long as the dealer doesn't hit 21, the game will have been won. The dealer draws... a 10! The house stands at 17, and the game is over. $8 has been won for the pot!
[2/6/2018 4:30:37 PM] John Miller: Now Bryce and jinga will have the same challenge with a different set of words. Same rules as before: Two minutes, with each word being worth $1 each. They will work together to form questions, one word at a time, describing an object associated with Paris. [2/6/2018 4:14:54 PM] Viixkey: hmmhmm [2/6/2018 4:15:06 PM] Viixkey: oh okay [2/6/2018 4:15:09 PM] John Miller: Each player will take turns typing one word that describes one of the objects on their list. They may not say the word, or any part of the word. Once they have finished a question, one player will type a question mark. [2/6/2018 4:15:18 PM] John Miller: After the question mark is typed, the guesser takes a guess. If it’s wrong, the questioners move on to the next word. [2/6/2018 4:15:24 PM] jingahegami: hon hon fromage baguette [2/6/2018 4:15:32 PM] John Miller: For example: P1: What P2: is P1: France’s P2: capital P1: ?
Guesser: Paris [2/6/2018 4:15:42 PM] Viixkey: oo nice [2/6/2018 4:16:01 PM] John Miller: They have a list of six objects associated with Paris. For each object correctly guessed in two minutes’ time, $1 will be added to the pot. You begin by describing the first word, and work your way down the list. If a word is giving you trouble, either one of you may say “pass” to skip it, but you may not return to it. [2/6/2018 4:16:27 PM] rctnk99: How does the "big deal" fit in to the challenge? [2/6/2018 4:16:56 PM] John Miller: The big deal has a very special role. I cannot discuss it until the end of the episode :-) [2/6/2018 4:17:03 PM] Viixkey: oo lala [2/6/2018 4:17:22 PM] xSoniaNeverMindx: sounds fun [2/6/2018 4:17:23 PM] Viixkey: coin is special [2/6/2018 4:17:23 PM] rctnk99: Welp [2/6/2018 4:17:30 PM] COINTOSSUSER420: spoiler alert: I'm getting evicted if you fail the challenge
For their next challenge, the players move to Paris! They are asked to select: One player that considers themselves to be a "big deal" One player who knows everything Two players who love to talk Two players who hate to talk
After much discussion, they decide to choose the following players:
Big Deal: Coin Knows everything: rctnk Loves to talk: Viixkey and Sonia Hates to talk: Bryce and Jinga
[2/6/2018 4:11:42 PM] Viixkey: yush [2/6/2018 4:12:16 PM] John Miller: Your next game is called "One by one". This is a test of your communication skills, and you can win up to $12 in this game. [2/6/2018 4:12:32 PM] Viixkey: communication skills 0.0 [2/6/2018 4:12:36 PM] rctnk99: So it's going to be challenging [2/6/2018 4:12:40 PM] rctnk99: Cool [2/6/2018 4:12:40 PM] John Miller: The two players who like to talk will be a team. The two players who don’t like to talk will also be a team. [2/6/2018 4:12:50 PM] jingahegami: aye [2/6/2018 4:12:53 PM] Viixkey: Sonia we can do thiss [2/6/2018 4:12:55 PM] xSoniaNeverMindx: AYYY [2/6/2018 4:12:58 PM] xSoniaNeverMindx: let's go vicky [2/6/2018 4:12:59 PM] John Miller: Viixkey and Sonia, you're together. Bryce and Jinga, you're together. [2/6/2018 4:13:10 PM] COINTOSSUSER420: I'm a mole again ; c [2/6/2018 4:13:13 PM] COINTOSSUSER420: *alone [2/6/2018 4:13:17 PM] jingahegami: :D [2/6/2018 4:13:17 PM] Videl: good luck guys [2/6/2018 4:13:24 PM] Viixkey: lolol thanks videl [2/6/2018 4:13:31 PM] xSoniaNeverMindx: ty ty [2/6/2018 4:13:48 PM] John Miller: You will be describing words to rctnk99. He will have to guess the words you are describing.
With the prediction made, there is nothing to do but wait for the moment to arrive and see if the prediction was correct.
[12:29:39 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers send their troops to Havrincourt to defend a potential attack that they believe will be incoming in the next few minutes. [12:29:55 PM] Platypops: Oh boy [12:32:13 PM] John Miller: All of a sudden, they hear a massive boom from the distance!
A battle has begun! In the distance, they see Allied tanks rolling in! The smell of gunpowder fills the air as a cannon is fired!
[12:32:47 PM] Platypops: (angel) [12:33:06 PM] John Miller: The attack has begun! But not in the village of Havrincourt, no—the Allies are invading the city of Anneux! [12:33:30 PM] John Miller: The tallest mast in the village, which for days had waved the banner of the Central Powers, has been reclaimed! In its place, the Allies establish the French banner waving high again it its glory! The Allies have retaken the village of Anneux! [12:33:46 PM] Platypops: Ha [12:33:49 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers have been thwarted. The Allies have successfully protected their intel, and $7 will be added to the pot. Congratulations!
[12:33:52 PM] Platypops: gg germany [12:34:02 PM] John Miller: The pot now stands at $14.
After several intense rounds of interrogation and negotiation, the Central Powers make their decision.
[1/31/2018 10:19:41 PM] qrstuv: hey yall [1/31/2018 10:19:53 PM] qrstuv: German squad has made some decisions tbh [1/31/2018 10:20:27 PM] qrstuv: and i guess we have to announce our plans publicly at some point to make it official [1/31/2018 10:22:20 PM] qrstuv: basically as far as the +1/-1's go, we simply rewarded two ppl who were willing to play the game and handicapped a few who didn't. regardless of the outcome best of luck fam [1/31/2018 10:22:41 PM] qrstuv: Prediction: Havrincourt at 2:30 PM on Thursday. +1: Bryce, Videl. -1: VWXYZ, Coin, Vicky.
[1/30/2018 5:14:23 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers must publicly predict, we choose to defend [village] at [time] before the attack happens. They must also publicly announce the final decisions for any rewards/punishments at the same time they announce their prediction. If the Allies attack before the Central Powers make their prediction, the Central Powers lose their ability to award any rewards/punishments. [1/30/2018 5:14:53 PM] John Miller: Be sure to include the hosts in any private negotiation chats you have. Other than that, how you negotiate is up to you. [1/30/2018 5:15:54 PM | Removed 5:17:28 PM] Platypops: This message has been removed. [1/30/2018 5:15:54 PM] Bryce: omg this is so drama!! [1/30/2018 5:16:12 PM] John Miller: You are all now free to engage in the fine art of sucking up to rctnk99 and qrstuv. Good luck, players! Happy negotiating!
[1/30/2018 5:12:52 PM] Platypops: hmmm [1/30/2018 5:13:15 PM] rctnk99: So really all the allies have to do is keep quiet [1/30/2018 5:13:16 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers are willing to make a deal—they are willing to reward any players who are willing to work with them. Any individual member of the Allied forces can share their info by posting in their journal room, share info with [player]. [1/30/2018 5:13:29 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers have the power to award up to three “+1” rewards they could gift to POWs who cooperate with them. Any player who receives this gift will have one point added to their score on the quiz. [1/30/2018 5:13:41 PM] John Miller: They also have the power to inflict punishments to players who refuse to answer their questions, or who are obviously lying. They have up to three “-1” punishments they could hand out to POWs who do not cooperate. This punishment deducts a point from that player’s final quiz score. [1/30/2018 5:13:53 PM] John Miller: Finally, the Central Powers have the power to award one exemption to one lucky POW who tells them what they want to hear, should they feel they deserve it. [1/30/2018 5:14:05 PM] rctnk99: Ooh
[1/30/2018 5:11:28 PM] John Miller: Your choice of helmets has affected what role you will play. Nine of you selected British, Italian, American, and Russian helmets. You will all be aligned with the Allied Powers. Helmets G and K, however, were German helmets. These helmets were claimed by rctnk99 and qrstuv. They will be representing the Central Powers in this reenactment. [1/30/2018 5:11:50 PM] rctnk99: Oh lol [1/30/2018 5:12:08 PM] rctnk99: I knew it [1/30/2018 5:12:20 PM] John Miller: Some time in the next 24 to 48 hours (between 7:00 PM EST Wednesday and 7:00 PM EST Thursday), a staged recreation of a WWI battle will happen in one of four villages (Bourlon, Marcoing, Havrincourt, or Anneux). Each POW has some information, and the Central Powers must try to obtain it. [1/30/2018 5:12:29 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers will have one chance to try to predict where and when the battle will happen. [1/30/2018 5:12:40 PM] John Miller: If the Allies can keep the intel a secret, and the attack is successful, $7 will be added to the pot. If the Central Powers can predict the attack before it happens, no money will be won, and both Central Powers players will win exemptions to the next round.
The second challenge begins! Each player is asked to choose one of 11 helmets from World War I.
Once they have made their selections, the rules are explained:
[1/30/2018 5:08:40 PM] John Miller: Welcome, players! As you know, we've moved a bit from the bustling city of Cambrai to the quaint farming village of Flesquiéres. [1/30/2018 5:08:45 PM] jingahegami: yee [1/30/2018 5:08:53 PM] John Miller: Flesquiéres wasn’t always a city filled with a bunch of farmers. Its location near both the coast and the Belgian frontier has made small villages like these important strategic locations in warfare. [1/30/2018 5:09:37 PM] John Miller: During World War I, the Central Powers had captured several of these cities late in the war. In November 1917, they knew the Allies would attack soon, but they did not know where or when. [1/30/2018 5:09:49 PM] John Miller: The Central Powers had also captured several British and Irish POWs. The soldiers resented the fact that the Allied forces had stationed them in No Man’s Land, where they were most vulnerable of all the Allied troops. In retaliation, they freely offered information against the Allies. [1/30/2018 5:10:12 PM] John Miller: Because of the POW’s disloyalty, the Central Powers were able to thwart the first mass tank attack in history, which happened right here in this small village of Flesquiéres. [1/30/2018 5:10:57 PM] John Miller: Our next game will be based on this event. Nine of you will play the role of Allied POW soldiers. Two of you represent the Central Powers. [1/30/2018 5:11:10 PM] Platypops: oh damn
