Oh that's cool, I knew you were a big Spider-Man fan so this thread is right up your alley. Was everything else I said accurate? Any other cool info to drop in this thread?
i went back and read some spiderman comics from the beginning. he actually got his first costume because he tried to use his powers to become a tv star and he got it from the studio. and there were moments in the beginning when his costume got damaged for the first time where he had to learn how to sow in order to fix the damage because he couldnt go anywhere to get it done and eventually started making back up suits to wear in place of a damaged, dirty, or soaked suit. and even making the first back-up was a big project for him to learn to do. so he didnt actually make his own suit in the beginning. also he started out as a regular high school student in the comics, same as the movies. his intellect rivals mr fantastic but he rarely gets to actually use it because he has no money and no time for school or work being spiderman

hello i'm a gay man . . . just without the physical act
for instance, when it comes to people who are scientists or geniuses or whatever virtually every character is related to it
the entire Fantastic Four - scientists
Tony Stark - engineer
Ant Man (not the movie one, the original antman) - scientist
Beast - scientist
Hulk - scientist
even Black Panther was a scientist and hes generally depicted as being a savage of sorts
its really bizarre how all the superheroes are being dumbed down, its like marvel is trying to make the characters more "relatable" for the common non-genius folk or something
spidermans no longer AS smart (dumb teenager who thinks good) antman is literally a criminal who cracks dumb jokes Starlord and Rocket Raccoon are just d'ickhead idiots
i guess that comes to comic books being marketed towards an older audience whereas superhero movies are more slapstick and targeted for younger audiences
in the marvel universe most of the superheroes are or were scientists which lead to their powers or abilities, and in the comic book lore peter parker is a biologist or engineer that worked on biometric enhancements (iirc, i forget exactly but it was something dope) and his intellect rivaled Mr. Fantastic from Fantastic 4 (one of the smartest dudes in the marvel universe) so him inventing the web shooters, his suit, and all that other jazz made sense.
i think it was a giant theme back when a lot of these comics were made to sort of glorify being a 'nerd' or 'smart' or whatever, i read an article on this stuff a while ago and that was basically the gist

i'll watch a spidey feature when it's him vs wilson fisk
before this there's been two main iterations of spiderman
1) supergenius scientist who gained spiderlike reflexes and superhuman strength from a spiderman who invented web spinners
2) then later his webshooters became organic and came from his wrists - in this iteration he was often not a 'supergenius', or at least not as much of one as the original iteration (exception being the original comics where he developed them himself)
#1 is the origina lamrvel spideman and #2 is the one often depicted in movies and spinoffs (like tobey mcguire's spiderman)
I'm not comfortable with the idea that SpiderMan is basically a walking chump without his suit and he requires frickin webfluid he's supposed to be superhuman with insane reflexes
#realtalk I watched the new Spider-Man last weekend and really enjoyed it. Both Tom and Tobey were good but I like that Tom and his co-actors (??) actually look like high school students.
