Moderator's role

Please, can someone explain me what is the Moderator's Role?

Because i was just told by a moderator that is not their role to care about anything outside the site. Their role is to do nothing except to moderate the site. (And honestly most don't even do that.)

So, really, what is your role in all of this?

Moderators should be promoting the site at least 8 hours a day in their everyday lives and also donating at least 33% of their wages to site improvement.
