Bumping because I saw Jason Bourne and The Conjuring 2. Enjoyed the latter but fell asleep in the former, 5/10 and 7/10 respectively

also I just saw Lights Out. Not gonna type up any long thoughts but I'm just gonna go ahead and recommend it to everybody looking for an actually solid and suspenseful horror movie. I've never watched a movie where the entire theater was completely interactive with the movie, screaming, laughing, clapping and aww'ing. The only reason it won't get the acclaim it deserves is because it's a horror movie, a genre that doesn't fair too well critically. 7.5/10

Just watched:

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

Directed By: Guillermo Del Toro
Starring: Ivana Baquero, Ariadna Gil, Sergi Lopez
Genre: Fantasy

Thoughts: Honestly, my general impression of this movie (and primary reason behind why I delayed it) was that it was a children's movie with too much of a fantasy plot for me to buy into or feel truly captivated by. I expected a generally good movie with the only stand-out part about it being its visuals. I was wrong in every way possible.

I have seriously never watched a movie capable of creating a stronger bridge between reality and fiction than this movie. Without giving anything from the plot away, it is absolute genius and really the furthest thing from a kid's movie. I'd probably be really traumatized if I were to watch it as a kid anyway, because this movie is a really dark film with layers upon layers of hidden meanings that require a lot of digestion. It has the same sense of mystery and pure adventure that a good fantasy movie should have, while also triumphantly ripping apart every fantasy movie cliche in the book. If I had one gripe about it, it would be that all of my aforementioned praise really falls mostly on the second half of this movie, as the first half was a little slow and failed to really enchant me. Ultimately, given enough patience, this movie's genius really shines with its ridiculously smart plot, great performances, and masterful direction. 9/10

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (2003)

Agreed, Kim Ki Duk is such an adorable director. I think twice before watching his films cause they have the haunting mindset.

Another suggestions: The Bow (2005) and 3-Iron (2004).

I'm not going to sell you on it. In fact, I'll do the opposite. The first episode moves pretty slowly. Go and watch it. You'll thank me later.

she does have quite an impressive catalogue even though I didn't care much for Still Alice she's definitely one of the greatest actresses of the past couple decades

Even if you don't like the movie (it drags in parts) it is a hell of a performance, and her oscar was also partly an apology for not giving it to her much sooner. Ironically she should have gotten it in 2002 for Far From Heaven, but it went to her Hours co-star Nicole Kidman, partly as an apology for not giving her the oscar for Moulin Rouge the year before. She was actually nominated in both Supporting Actress and Best Actress that year haha

yeah she was pretty great in Still Alice and her Oscar really was overdue. I hope she stars in something interesting soon

If you like Julianne Moore who is in all three movies I'd definitely recommend checking out far from heaven too, she really gets to showcase her skills there. As well as in the kids are alright and Still Alice. phenomemal actress with a phenomenal catalog
