Your Mafia Idol(s)

deletedover 8 years

ITT give the person/people who you admire the most and whose gameplay you tend to emulate.

When I first started playing comp my first idol was turquoise. I thought she was absolutely incredible and I would sheep her every game.

Obviously, turq left after some time. I think I tried to pick up some of Shivv's game play but failed miserably. But I really did admire Shivv even though he was kind of a douche.

While Anthony was banned I would occasionally play games with him and his friends. I admired his love for the game and when he came back to main lobby, I picked up some of his scum-hunting techniques. I think Anthony was the one who inspired me to be less of a troll player. I think these days I'm like 10% troll and 90% serious in ranked mafia games.

One final idol I have from this site is none other than pranay. Everyone questions this player quite a bit. If a player like Anthony stuffs a game, everyone just goes "man Anthony you stuffed it but good try" mainly because he's less aggressive than pranay. When pranay loses a game everyone bashes him and makes fun of him. We're not all perfect, we're all gonna have bad games. Due to pranay's aggressive attitude in all games, his games where he absolutely dominates the game are undermined due to it being popular to bash him when he loses as opposed to applaud him when he wins. Regardless, over the years, I've acknowledged that pranay knows the game like the back of his hand. He knows how to adapt to every situation. He knows all the techniques. I noticed that when I played with him he was very smart about the game like me. And I highly respected that. So I emulated his game play quite a bit as well. Hence why I'm super aggressive in about 80% of my games. Players like turquoise and Sarah who played with me when I first started comp would say I was an easygoing player. Players today would say I'm a manipulative aggressive dominating player in most games I play. And that's because I've emulated pranay's playstyle because I mad respect him.

Also as of recently, I re-joined mafiascum which was the mafia site I used briefly before joining epicmafia. As of recently I've definitely emulated some of the playstyles of people there. It's irrelevant who though since most of you aren't on that site.

TL;DR: turquoise, Shivv, Anthony, pranay7744, various MSers

i *was*, i'm not anymore. i don't even play the game at all and giving any attention to cheaters is precisely what drives most of them to cheat, even if it is negative attention lol. if you feel so inclined to crack down, why don't you investigate at the end of the round instead of following me when i post?

basically my idols are anyone who properly answer "why do you fos this person?" and by the time they're done, i'm not only surprised at their skills of reading but convinced that they're right

fotl was my first mentor and the first person to teach me that each person towntells differently - she used devante as an example because he tends to try and lead as town but sheeps the clear as mafia which is usually vice versa for most, which ftr is a very important thing to know about people and yet i feel a lot of people do not know that. obviously old school arcbell was a huge idol too (yeah whatever) because he was very analytical and willing to take his time even if he wasn't always right, because that was his way. shivv is probably why i strive to be so aggressive as a player because watching him even when i hated him made me realize that fighting for what you want is usually reachable depending on how you do it - he also communicates clearly about why someone is mafia, which is admirable because many people just say "bcuz hes sketchy" "gut feeling"

Also, as a side note, Anthony is extremely well regarded in the community, but even with all the acclaim he's still one of the most underrated players.

Dude is insanely good and better than even most good players realize.

Idk he is good sure but he never impressed me to that extent

I think the 5 main players who influenced me in terms of mafia would be Arcbell back when he used to only focus on playing mafia and i was new at the time he was like the only one who'd provide reasoning into what he was doing and take his time and it helped me deviate from the "self cross speedhammer" BS that was super evident back then, this was when the only good tables were with brontosaurus/chooksy etc.

after that bernin took me under his wing and i'd play consistently with him and BillClintonIRL and that sort of bordered around playing like an idiot which sort of had its own perks with the meta back then since you get to see people react to you differently by doing stupid sh*t.

I think i actually learnt how to play in extremely rigorous tables after that (i already had 2 trophies then) when Anthony and Empire started giving me tips on how to play the game, which included in depth reasoning that most comp players are privy to in games, this was when we'd fill tables with System/Ling/nice.

Finally, after all that I got to play with Gira who in my opinion is the best mafia player i've ever played with since he rarely ever missed a beat and it assisted me in perfecting my own distorted form of play, after that i stopped giving a crap and doing random bs in games because nothing matters.

Honorable mentions to Riotkiller who's aggro play I observed in games and helped me get near equally aggressive when i was too much of a pu$$y to actually take charge, and also to Peta when he played on cook and sort of told me sh*t that no one actually ever told me about how to find the mafia.
