With all the coverage on TV and online recently, I just wanted to ask you guys a question - would you date a transgender person? Reasoning is cool, saying yes or no is cool, just don't put any dumb in the comments
"There is no consensus among scientists about why a person develops a particular sexual orientation.[1] Many scientists think that nature and nurture – a combination of genetic, hormonal, and environmental influences – factor into the cause of sexual orientation.[1][17] They favor biologically-based theories,[17] which point to genetic factors, the early uterine environment, both, or the inclusion of genetic and social factors.[15][18] There is no substantive evidence which suggests parenting or early childhood experiences play a role when it comes to sexual orientation.[15] With regard to same-sex sexual behavior, shared or familial environment plays no role for men and minor role for women.[18]"
There's no doubt we are influenced in some way perhaps in regards to sexuality. We're influenced by a great many things in a great many areas, so it's not too difficult to understand that it's not a clear "choice"
If sexuality is a choice, then how come people are gay in countries where homosexuality = execution
Why would people choose to undergo public ridicule by coming out as gay when it was still a taboo thing in society that many people frowned upon and for which those who admitted to it were clearly mistreated
why choose to be sexual in the first place?
I hope this isn't a serious question
sexuality is a conscious decision
Sexuality is a biological mechanism that exists in all sexually reproducing species, including humans
people choose to have sex
You don't have to have sex to be gay lol

Yes. I guess I'm being mad incoherent but what I'm trying to say is that change in location on the continuum isn't strictly a matter of genetics, and I don't think it's wise to belittle the effect on the matter of conscious thought.

"And I see no compelling argument that sexual orientation, unlike other preferences or deal breakers or w/e, must be uniquely fixed."
Well this just goes back to my original point, how can you think that this is the case while you think that homosexualitet isnt a choice? Im heading to a party so I cant make any better argument at the moment, but I will bump this later

as a child who struggled with what was "right" and "wrong" to be attracted to, i can in fact confirm sexuality isn't really a "choice"
e: for me anyway, wouldn't want to overgeneralize--but as Peta said it's heavily moderated by genetics
I don't mean to say it's literally an in-the-moment decision and it's unfortunate that "choice" is the only commonly used alternative to genetics in discussions of sexual orientation because "making a choice" literally means "making a decision at a certain point in time." Sure, some people are gay from birth or a really young age or w/e, but I think for a lot of people who come to the realization later in life you can't just chalk it up to DNA.
There's a real argument there but it's also important to consider that sexuality is a continuum and can change throughout a person's lifetime, which may be why many people "come out" a lot later in life as well

This is false seeing as you could choose not to be a product of your lust and work to better yourself.
lmfao

I wasn't born this way, but my genetics in conjunction with a variety of environmental factories made me this way and I never really felt like I had a conscious choice in the matter.
