there's really just so much more information that the mod team has about users that the community doesn't have when it comes to considering who to mod. and most of that information can be vital.
anyway, the point is that modding random users who happen to be popular is going to be a horrendous idea.
isn't harrold the most recent person to have been modded? does that not look like a popularity contest to u? quality of rulings in reports matters most to the people submitting the reports. friends aren't going to be so huge an influence, it's pretty dumb and knee-jerk anti-social to think they will
What? I'm not a mod.

no offense btw, harrold. no slight on u that u got modded for being popular

not defending it but it didn't go too terrible after chris modded a bunch of random people
kenny got OT'd a bunch, nillager was better put as a sandbox mod, iJacob was a nightmare, and everyone else has been OK. that's like a 50% success rate.

honestly i'd rather have someone who is an effective moderator for a month or two and then peters out and goes inactive than someone who stays relatively active for a long period of time but is bad straight up bad at the job.
I wouldn't want either after the first goes inactive

i mean, i'd rather have a car that goes 15 mph than one that has poor alignment and hits everything in sight.

pretty much everything u said there is ready-refuted in the other thread
riot's responses don't count also i didn't read it.

inactive at moderating =/= bad at moderating
half of being a good mod is being active
