A little idea.

So basically, one huge issue this site has is simplicity for newer players. Upon joining an unranked game, which new players are forced to do, you face a couple different situations, all basically bad. You either join a game with a -ton of random roles that is a clusterfuck and scares the player away. Or you might join a game with a bunch of veterans who do stuff without an explanation which just confuses the new player, and likely drives them away. Or you join an unranked game with a bunch of other noobs who have no clue what they're doing and screw it up. In all situations, new players seem to have a tough road ahead of them. It's only the players who are smart and patient enough to learn about the site that will actually end up staying.

So, my proposal is this: Have a beginner lobby, where players are automatically sent to upon joining the site. There they can join one of the couple allowed setups (simple ones) and join a game. Simultaneously, the game will also have a couple of slots for veterans. Essentially, veterans with over 100 games played, may join the beginner lobby and join games. They can join the game, help the new players understand it, and so on. What do the veterans gain from it? Every 25 beginner games a veteran helps out in, they get 1 token (something along those lines)

This whole system encourages veterans to help out, helps new players understand the site, and I think it'd work. I want harsh critique. kThxBye

I always tell them what to do at night. "Hook/stalk this... we're killing this..." if they ask me whether they need to cc anything I'll tell them. And I end the day with telling them to just "be cool" and play "calm"... If I see, that that player messed up the game because of an action they 100% believed they had to do and I see they had the right intention, I'd tell them unlucky. But if they leave the game straight away or tell me after the game that they "yolo'd" it ... then w.e

i think the mentor system could do a bit more than it's doing now, unfortunately i became a mentor when i have almost no free time, so i can't find out if i was right or wrong all along.

isn't because a comp player is nicely telling them before, during, or after a game what they were doing wrong. Cut the crap.

u can't tell someone they're doing something wrong before they do it,

That's So Raven doesn't play epicmafia

I lol'd but let me give you an example because you like these:

When I used to play, I flip scum with someone. I look at that person's profile and see that they haven't played VDLI or haven't played enough games. Okay, easy. In the maf meeting I'd have a good ole pep talk. "Just act natural, don't be too over the top, don't just hide in the shadows because they tunnel on people for that. And even the occassional "don't this up I'm on a streak"

I'm not saying that someone is sitting in a game handing out Pro Tips.

ya, shamzy doesn't realize that it only takes 20 seconds in a meeting to explain to your partners what to do. when i flipped maf i usually always tell my partners a simple game plan even if they're experienced players (Except for pranay of course)

if a new player messes up one game of yours it shouldn't be very difficult to explain to them their mistake. I know when i was new to comp i was intimidated one game and said the wrong cop report or something and got reported for it so mistakes and f ups will happen it's just part of the game & u learn from them

non-comp serious games

Ranked games just need to be taken more seriously.. and mods need to stop being so lenient on new players that play ranked. At some point they need to know there are consequences

Regulated how? I'm asking questions because I'm interested not because I'm being a jerk btw.

Active effort in the form of what, AMime?

i think the "if a new player wants to get better, play comp" argument doesn't work right now. like maybe it used to in the past, but right now the # of players and quality of games can't sustain that. we need some active effort

I don't care enough about you to judge you. I'm just pointing out that you're wrong and the reasons why you're wrong.
over 9 years
Are you actually judging me right now? lmao. I'm nice to most people on this site what are you talking about. The only time I'd ever be rude to someone is if they did/said something that was rude towards me. Lol... you've actually annoyed me enough. Have fun making up sh*t I don't need this.

This whole "every new player is terrible and us veterans, the champions, are automatically better" mentality is fukcing stupid.
over 9 years
I would love to see those receipts because if your "nice" is anything how you treat and approach players that have been playing the game for years, it isn't so nice.
over 9 years
You're obviously not reading what I'm saying. I said I try to help them at first. I'm not instantly rude to a new player because they're new.

This could all be fixed if the players adjusted their attitudes toward new players.

This logic is what pisses me off the most. You guys expect competitive players to be fine with a new player costing a game for them. Sure it doesn't always happen but when it does, it sucks and theres nothing you can do about it. Why? because even if you report it... its always given a note because they're "a new player"...

Lets say you're a professional football (soccer) player and a new player has joined to fill in the empty space on your team. This player is not as experienced as the rest of the players. Sure at first you'll try to help them improve and give them advice but they'll still make mistakes, just like a new player on epicmafia would. Don't get me wrong its not 1 mistake that makes me rude towards them. It's that they believe what they're doing is "right". I'm not saying anybody that plays different to me sucks, but they cant explain why they play that way. They cant explain anything they do. They continue to play and refuse to improve or as they call it "try hard".

Have you tried not being bitter and so angry toward them? Have you actually applied changing your attitude or did you just go off on a rant about how it doesn't do anything and continue your usual way? I've done 600+ reports, and I can guarantee you that a high percentage of the games with new players that are reported for gamethrowing or doing something essentially wrong play wise isn't because a comp player is nicely telling them before, during, or after a game what they were doing wrong. Cut the crap.

vilden says

vitacon, why should a COMPETITION be casual friendly? it makes no frickin sense

Because at the core it's not essentially a solo-style game, it's arguably easier winning games with new players than experienced ones if you know how to adapt your style.

I'm not saying it's a competitor's job to teach, I'm saying if you're making posts about how the game sucks like your life depended on it, you should probably do something about said game quality. If you're looking for nothing but the same players game in and game out day after day there are no problems with making your own #MLG lobby and locking it to everyone but the people you want to play with. The trophies won't be worth any less. In theory, anyway.
