How many people

deletedover 9 years

on the mentor page are actually learning anything?

How hard would it be to fix the mentor program completely, I remember when Shivv - arguably one of the best players wanted to be a mentor attempted for months to become a mentor and no one gave him the time of day.

Why have a program if it's not being incorporated into the site to do what it's suppose to do? I literally just actually looked at the mentor page and I see maybe 1 or 2 mentors who actually don't suck at the game, the mentees are literally all the same anime bullSh** avi, what the hell how does no one notice the site literally sucks because no one is teaching the new players how to progress from Fancy Pants > other setups,

basically what happens is that mentors in the system wait for their mentees to ask to be mentored and since the mentees are lazy as most people online are and choose to never actually ask they are never mentored and the system itself is poor

@Harrold: Yeah but we can't force people to join the program just to have a good competition. Most people on the site aren't in the program and therefore have no real interest of being in it. Sacrificing the already fragile-ish competition in attempt to boost involvement in a program that is currently slightly lacking isn't the right way to go about things in my opinion.

If this had some interest, then Competition 1 would become bolstered as a result. There would be more good players in Competition 1 who would have a more depth perspective on wifom etc. They'd have the chance to play against their mentors, and thus they'd behave with more respect as they don't want to let them down.

The flaws are obviously that people would have the same mentor, or that they wouldn't be available at the same time, or they wouldn't have any desire to run. These are issues that can be discussed though.

Having Competition 2 run in place of Competition would mean that people would feel compelled to get involved with the mentor program as they wouldn't want to miss out on being able to participate.

I dunno man, it's a preliminary idea at the moment, but I think it has some potential.

It definitely has potential. We are in agreement... but there just aren't enough mentees interested or mentees period. Look how long it takes sometimes to fill a gold heart game in normal rounds... we're a long way away from this happening sadly.

This is why you have the competitions running in place of one another. More people will be interested in becoming mentees just so that they can have the opportunity to join a competition. It would be quite fun as well because 2 good players might team up and sign their alt up as a mentee.

You don't really need a mentor interface to mentor a new player.

You're correct, but in this way it can be monitored by whoever is running the program through feedback and the like. And the in-game assist is there to use too.

The mentor list should be completely wiped and rebuilt. Devante had a good idea in the other thread with regard to having a mentor/mentee competition. I think it would be good because everyone would have the same edge. It would also create a sense of teamplay between mentor and mentee to do well in a competition. They wouldn't want to let each other down. I can see only positives. This would also encourage people to behave with less toxicity towards one another.

Sadly I can only upvote this twice. Do you want to know the sad and harsh truth? For some reason no one wants to bother and even consider what Devante said. A lot of good ideas have been suggested lately about improving the site and still no one tries to implement them.

In all honesty, the best idea is to move the game to Steam and reconstruct the client, and obviously fork out a bit for advertising. I have an amazing concept in mind but Lucid turned it down 2 years ago. I just feel like things are far too limited by staying on this website with bad programming and non-existent advertisement.

Not enough games would fill and it would be much like EMO1, which was held in Crunk lobby and had barely anyone playing, especially after day 6 or so.

A shortened round wouldn't do much though, and we would need lucid to shorten the limit.

You guys know like more than 50% of the people in the program have no interest in trophy running or even playing a lot of competitive right

tbh most of that was from word of mouth though, it was Training Lobby players in games saying how mean players in Competitive Lobby were, and the players would just be scared to ever go to comp lobby. Which has been the divide for years, I'm possibly a contributor to this, but this would play into my idea of the mentee competition thing. I'll just copy it and paste it here

you could have mini-competitions in a custom lobby or something, but these competitions would only be for mentees and they would be while the main competition is on hold. Then you could revamp the mentor program which is very doable, no one wants to put the effort into it. And give good players incentive to mentor by giving them something like a "Mentor of the month" and mentee of the month to whoever wins that competition.
This comp would be shorter than the regular one of course, it would start a week before the next month and have a 1000 point winner.

There simply are not enough mentees, let alone ones that are interested, for this to function adequately.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I feel it would be a good thing.

Competition 1

- As normal.

Competition 2

- Mentor/Mentee trophy run.

Competition 1 and 2 would rotate.

I never got a response to my mentor application, so this thing is pretty BOGUS if you ask me
deletedover 9 years
the mentor system doesnt work due to the lack of a proper platform of mentor/student to work with, usually at the fault of lazy coding from lucid and lack of enthusiasm

mafia is better learned through experience, not someone telling you

Harrold, I agree, but a lot of the advanced mentoring focuses on the skills that are valuable for competitive play already... however a seperate branch for Competitive would be a cool thing to try I suppose
over 9 years
People will play where they want to play. The function of the mentor is to help them get better wherever it is they play or wherever they wish to go, be it unranked, red heart or gold heart. And the mentee asks for help at their leisure. Sometimes they don't need help or have time. And again, a lot of it is in PMs, so it's not visible for everyone to see.

I had plans, but never had the opprotunity to use them once I had them.

Yeah you're probably right. It would still be interesting to try something like a competitive mentor program. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work.
