Petition: Create Purple Hearts

deletedover 9 years

Hey guys,

I love EM a lot, but I feel Main Lobby has lately grown sort of stale. This is because of a bunch of reasons I won't get into, but what this has caused is an addiction to simple set ups like Fancy Pants and Coco's that pretty much crowd and spam the lobby wall. If you go to the main lobby page right now, and click back to the past 10 pages, 90% of ranked games that have been played have either been fancy pants, cocos set up, or guns and hookers.

The Problem -----While I recognize that these set ups have their place in the community, and that they are a good for beginners, this fixation on FP and Cocos is bad for the community because it decreases the diversity of set ups played, discourages an environment for trying new things (like trying different set ups or creating your own), and creates a gap between experienced players and new players.

My Proposal Here -----I understand that outright blacklisting these set ups is not the solution, as it would just drive people away or make people stick to unranked games, and is unfair for those who legitimately enjoy FP. Therefore, I propose that a good compromise is to limit red hearts to 10 a day, (renewed by 5 every 24 hours) and to create a third heart system separate from gold hearts and red hearts: purple hearts! (they don't have to be purple lol) These purple hearts would be limited to 10 a day as well, and would pretty much be the same as red hearts. The only difference is, these purple hearts would disallow playing Fancy Pants, Coco's, and all those sorts of set ups. This would allow players to play their regular games of FP and Cocos each day, but then also encourage them to try new set ups in Purple heart games.

I know this idea isn't perfect, but I think it's better than the current system we have now, and wouldn't be that difficult to implement. It would create a 4 step stage from unranked to comp, and would overall help to make a more interesting site. Sign the petition if you agree!

Edit: I'm okay with not slashing the amount of red hearts people can play with. If you see the petition below, it states only to add a third system of hearts that would ban fancy pants and give room for experimentation

If you vote in the poll please sign the petition in support! Thanks! :)))

What color would you want these hearts to be?

Haha...Rutab....adding a type of heart that disallows the playing of fancy pants or classic mafia is NOT a type of blacklisting. it's adding the ability for people who are new who run out of red hearts to play ranked games that AREN'T comp games.

You're right, it doesn't. I know personally and first hand that this community doesn't want anything new. Remember when we created the new forums? No one wanted it because it was too much, with too many subforums. We spent a long time (the mods) arguing and telling the community that it was okay.

Trust me, what you want is only going to suck way more than help anything. You're wrong.

How do you not even understand that you are still taking it away if you're restricting it in any way? You're literally telling them they can only plat it so many times, and then they can't?

Lobby splitting is not the answer either. The Intermediate lobby has already been suggested (along with this entire thread almost) and has been rejected. I don't see how that's gonna change at all.

You're fighting a pointless battle that you're obviously going to lose.

You may think so, but we'll never know unless we try.

Rutab, nothing is ever the answer, because this community never wants to try anything new.

Exactly. People stay for what they like. People who play the competition, play because they want to. Those games fill. People who play FP play FP because they want to. There's nothing else to it. Start hosting your own games. Be patient. Promote your games. Taking away others' freedom to play what they want is the totally wrong answer that should never be added, and probably never will be,

I'm not taking it a way. People can still play it rutab.

What I'm proposing is creating an intermediate lobby. In fact, the petition doesn't even state we want to cut hearts. We just want to create a third heart system that promotes set ups other than fp.

If we did this, we'd not only keep the amount of hearts people can use to play fp, we add another 10 that would allow people to experiment and play new set ups

Also, creating a purple heart intermidiate level of game play is ultimately good for the community, because it will renew the comp player base with good players instead of people fresh out of playing fp.

Everyone wants more people to play competitive games, including me. The site grows in that way, but, restricting people from playing what they want is totally not the right way to go.

I don't know how many more times I can say it, but you are totally wrong.

I'm not "totally" wrong Rutab just because you disagree with me and envision something different for the site.

everyone is bored of fp and cocos, but we're force to play it because they're usually the only ranked games available.

Plus, having fp spam lobby walls in a way drives lots of good players away, who know EM main lobby has become a stronghold for fp and cocos and not much else.

Everyone is not bored of FP and Coco because people still play it. That is factually false. It is not driving good players away, because a lot of people are still here; it's not hard to make the setups you want to make and ignore those games.

Lots of "good players" stay here because of the competition.

Lots of people play fp because it's usually the only game available.

How many times have you seen people host something other than fp/cocos in ranked, and then it never fill because there are 4 other fp games.

That's still like blacklisting. You're restricting their play of the setup they want to because you think that they should have to play the setups you want them to. You're cutting their hearts in half and saying, hey, you can't play that setup anymore because I don't like it.

Also, you can make games too you know, not just the people who play Fancy Pants.

Blacklisting means being banned totally from ranked play. What I'm doing is restricting the amount it can be played for points for the sake of giving the community room to grow and experiment.

And I can make games, but it's extremely hard for other set ups to be filled because everyone is addicted to fp and don't want to get out of their comfort zone.

But you're still saying "Don't play that setup, play the ones that I want you to play." How can you not see that this is incredibly dumb. You're trying to enforce the growth of diversity by restricting people from what they want to play.

You realize that they probably won't play harder setups, once they play their FP for the day, they'll probably leave. They don't want to play anything else because they don't want to. If they did, they would be playing other things. Giving them only 10 red hearts won't change this.

Promote new setups then. Go into games and ask people to try something with you. Make a harder setup. Seeing new setups alone promotes them. It's really not that hard.

10 heart cut might be unreasonable to start with, but what if it was 15 rh to 5 ph?

Rutab, I don't want to blacklist fancy pants.

I want to limit people from playing 20 games of ranked fancy pants, to 10 games, as to encourage other set ups being played. If what you say is true, then maybe we could experiment at 15 red hearts, 5 purple hearts.

And I played fancy pants lately BECAUSE it's one of the two/three ranked games usually available.
