How common is cheating?

over 10 years

I've only recently jumped into the non-main lobby part of EM and I see so many reports for cheating and talking of people doing so. How common is it? I see some peoples records are just ridiculous and I wonder how possible that even is when youre still so dependent on other people. Then i look at my record and cry. Every night. Pass the napkins please.

Cheating is remarkably easy to get away with so the amount of high level names that have gotten caught is a real headscratcher.

I mean, the burden of proof requirements to actually go after someone for cheating are pathetically low, it's legitimately more surprising to me that there hasn't been an accusation thread for every single major user

There is no burden of proof requirement.

You can't regard trophies as meaningless pixels one day then boast about having trophies and put people down for not having one the next.

It was not my intention to be humorous in that cheating is a valid, potential source of enjoyment for people.

Sane people don't cheat at internet ruby mafia for a badge of pixels.

On the contrary, it's a lot of fun.

If you join games entirely at random, around 1 in every 4 comp/gold heart games you play will have some form of cheating.

That is my estimate, after regularly playing in the last 20 or so rounds.

It didn't always used to be so bad, but cheating has become practically acceptable meta for most people who join as friends in competitive games.

Trophies are meaningless on EM in its current era.

A good rule of thumb to work with to join good, non-rigged games is to avoid packs of players that know each other and consistently fill each other's games. Or, play with them until you notice strange behavior. Trust me, you can notice the oddities of cheaters if you're looking for it. However, getting evidence on them is sadly a whole different ball game.

This is actually correct, I didn't think so many people were in denial.

Skypers get caught because this website is gossip central and people can't help but tell other people that they have logs of someone cheating

Who needs logs when you can voice chat and tell each other what to do, never stating anything explicitly?

Ironically no, it's not. Most skypers get caught. See the thing about skype cheaters is they don't do it once. Once they've done it once they're addicted. Which means that they'll staticly become likelier to get caught as they continue going forward.

I'm sorry, but do you really believe this?

Yeah, yeah I do. Unless you'd like to provide the name of 1 skype cheater that played genuinely post-skyper cheating?

anthony and calvin probably

I was implying ones that weren't caught for it. (Or had to stay banned for a long period of time, in calvins case.) Also, Anthony never actually role shared.

I'm sure some cheaters do get away with it but I'd say the userbase has at least a 90% success rate with catching cheaters

That is a healthy outlook to have for someone who wants to win a trophy.

I think you should give the community a little credit where credit is due. This is a game that requires lying, and thus pathological liars and cheaters are drawn to it. This is also a game that requires catching liars, and I think most of the time the people who make pastebins are pretty spot on with it.

Competition is still fun and plenty of legit players win trophies. But the nature of the game has changed and as tech has gotten better, cheating has gotten easier. Not to mention less people dedicated to catching cheaters and no lucid around to fix broken technical issues.
