Pls tell me why this setup is the most popular setup in Main Lobby. I would like to hear from players who are new or from those who predominantly play the setup. When I joined, Classic was the most popular setup in Training Lobby and I played a ton of it, but now FP has pretty much overtaken the lobby in red hearts.
I know what the old / comp players think, but I'd really like to hear from the people who play it regularly so I can understand why FP has become the preeminent epicmafia setup.
This isn't a thread meant to bash FP, but rather try to understand why it is so popular with the "silent majority" of the site.
classic mafia was not replaced in the sense that FP replicates everything that was bad about classic mafia while adding an extra factor of giving the illusion of easier mafia play. it's essentially classic mafia two point worse
1) small size. fills quickly, less players to think about, less factors to consider. ease of access 2) guaranteed cop reports. the cop gets reports. they tell the truth. less thinking required for nominal gain 3) no work required. as mafia, you NL and generally don't cc cop. the game is usually simple and in your favour unless... 4) town autowins. they're not rare and with a setup that's so easy to fill, easy to read and easy to play, the bad games are blurred out by the good and easy.
as much as you try to make a setup similar to fancy pants, any setup that you make will not have the same appeal, because as much as you might not like it, the factors that appeal are the ones that make the setup in itself so bad. losing these factors is losing the appeal. replacing fancy pants, for all intents and purposes, is impossible.
& ftr, since my setups are banned without reason I am only ever playing fancy pants now until I get some reasons, screw it, if the mods won't let us create new setups that are different from fancy pants then ... we are force to play it and nothing else.
Fancy Pants is even more town sided than Classic Mafia, but the appeal I guess is that there are multiple power roles you can get while still being relatively easy to understand, and no additional mafia roles to worry about.

People should not be allowed to play setups that rot their brains, for their own safety. I'm sure training lobby would love meth too but that doesn't mean we should let them have it.
It is popular because it is NOT classic, it learns more roles, and it is easy to learn like classic, duh! (and therefore it can be played within 10-30 minutes. People do not like playing a game that takes 30-120 minutes. This is board game basics 101.)
We need to stop blacklisting setups without reason stated to the community from the mods. I think there needs to be a blacklist forum. All topics locked. The mod puts the name of the Setup and who made it then gives a reason why it was blacklisted. Enough said. See my Gun Run Topic for more ideas about blacklisted.

Also it's smaller than a lot of setups and so it fills faster, which is helpful for people like me who live in unusual timezones (I.e. GMT,+12) who want to play when there aren't as many people on. I still recommend doing something to limit its play, tho, cos it is getting to the point where it's overplayed by everyone.

it's worth a try. Just blacklist it for one day. What could possibly go wrong?
Setups like VDLI, O2R even classic mafia should be played more, Classic Mafia > Fancy pants, classic mafia mostly needs scumhunt ; Both mafia/real cop have to cc d1, so It's more balanced than Fancy Pants, IMO, Blacklist Fancy pants for a 1/2 weeks so people can play other setups.
